IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH THE (ABS) LIGHT OF YOUR CAR ON?

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

The anti-lock braking system (ABS) indicator is one of the numerous dashboard indicators that is almost considered not relevant by drivers in third world countries! Some drivers even think it is functional when the light appears on the dashboard!

What is anti-lock braking system (ABS)

The anti-lock breaking system (ABS) is a system that alters break fluid pressue. It helps the tires on your vehicle to keep up contact with the road while you are braking. It works by keeping the wheels from locking up as brakes are applied, which can bring about skidding by altering the brake fluid pressure.
The principle gear behind the ABS is to enhance vehicle control under heavy and sudden braking, particularly on free or smooth surfaces. It doesn't necessarily decrease stopping distance, the fact is that it can help.

Here are a few things to think about the (ABS) security:

The ABS framework completes an individual test each time you turn on the car. When you begin to move the vehicle, the indicator light on the dashboard quickly comes on, and if the system finds an issue, the light will remain on.
On the off chance that you see the light glimmer promptly in the wake of starting the vehicle, at that point it's simply your vehicle completing a self-check.

In the event that you notice the light remains on while you are driving, it implies the ABS isn't working optimally. Your brakes will in any case work, but the ABS may not engage properly when the need for an emergency braking arises.

In the event that the light stays on, you need a technician to analyze the ABS light issue at the earliest opportunity.
Since the ABS assists with vehicle control and sudden stopping, it is an imperative to keep it functional – you never know when you'll require it.

On the off chance that both the ABS and the brake mechanism light come on at the sametime, your vehicle is never again safe to drive. This implies there is a significant issue with the braking mechanism, and proceeding to drive puts yourself as well as other people in danger of an auto accident.

As you are braking intensely and your ABS engages well, you will see the brake pedal throbbing. This is totally typical and it implies the ABS framework is funtioning properly.
The ABS works with the stopping mechanism to making this throbbing so the wheels don't bolt up. When you feel this throbbing, keep your foot on the brake pedal and let the ABS framework take every necessary step for you. You should simply focus on controlling safely. Control is almost impossible to achieve in the absence of an anti-lock braking system!

In excence, driving with the ABS Light on isn't a safe decision since it implies your ABS isn't working appropriately. It implies your vehicle may not deal with like it is intended to.. under substantial braking. Get it fixed as quickly as you can!

While consulting a mechanic, make sure he doesn't cut off the whole system to make the light go off if he cannot fix the problem! It is a major practice of some quack mechanics.

About 40% of auto crashes can be reduced with a functional (ABS).

cheers!

Very informative..

I was not aware of this.

Indeed, this information can reduce a lot of road accidents around the world.

I will like to know at what part of the vehicle is the light going to show.

Keep up the good work

Offcourse!! My pleasure. Thanks for stopping by.

The light displays on the car dashbord!

Thanks for this informative post! @omonosa really brings to mind the importance of the ABS.

Thanks for this 'Omo. This is one post I can so relate with. I remember few weeks back, I and friend were returning from a late night party on the Island (about 3:30am) Them my friend said his ABS light was on. He explained that it means there was an issue with the break system and the car had a fault. We couldn't move at the speed we wanted, we were on the third mainland bridge too and wouldn't make any sense to stop.

We eventually got close by home when we saw that the rear tyre was deflated. He had to dive like that and call a mechanic in the morning. I guess we were lucky the car could take us to destination.

Wow!! Its a good thing you guys got home safely. Could have been worse.
