There's some important lessons to be learned here.
To avoid the same potential situation, I make sure I've got at least three copies of all my important files:
- On the computer itself
- On an external hard drive hidden away in some closet, except for once a month where I back up my files to it
- On a cloud backup service. I've been using Crashplan for years, but need to find another service: https://beta.chainbb.com/chainbb-general/@protoken/so-crashplan-is-closing-down-their-service-for-the-consumer-market-which-backup-provider-should-i-migrate-to
This setup mitigates the risk of losing my files, and I recommend others consider doing something like this too.
WOW! Great tips!!!! I will have a look at Crashplan! Yeah, all my friends told me the same..at least 3 options for backup!! I will do it from now on..
Crashplan is going to discontinue their home user market, so I will have to find something other than Crashplan for your online backup. Please do comment on https://beta.chainbb.com/chainbb-general/@protoken/so-crashplan-is-closing-down-their-service-for-the-consumer-market-which-backup-provider-should-i-migrate-to if you come across any good alternatives.
