The crypto-currency hype is known to drive the prices for mid-range and high-end graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD quite high and restricts the cheap supply for gamers. Some traders are now taking an interesting route and offering discounts to players when the graphics card is to be used in a gaming PC.
The American dealer Micro Center wants to offer gamers discounts for graphics cards, although the confirmation of an in-store manager is required. Micro Center promises discounts when it comes to purchasing additional gaming PC components like CPUS, motherboards, RAM bars and power supplies.
According to employees of Micro Center under certain circumstances, it should be possible to tap the discounts via the online shop of the retailer, but only for complete gaming pc purchases. Thereafter, the dealer must be contacted to get the discount for the GPU confirmed and finally received.
On reddit users reported savings of up to 400 $ for an Nvidia Geforce 1080 TI. Some users even report that they have been awarded discounts without having bought a complete gaming rig.
Graphics card prices rose thanks to the crypto-currency hype well above the manufacturer's recommended retail price. The discounts should be around retail price in the end.
