According to the latest Global Status Report from REN21, the world saw $264 Billion of investments in renewable energy in 2016.
The world added 75 GW of renewable capacity in 2016, to bring the total to 303 GW of installed capacity. Last year the world had added 51 GW, and the year before just 40 GW. This is a result of rapidly falling prices in the renewable sector. The additions from 2016 totaled more than all existing renewable capacity in 2011.
Solar technology was the most popular for the year. This represents a big change from previous years, when wind energy dominated. We can expect records to continue to be broken, and renewable trends to continue into 2017.
