Solar energy has been growing at breakneck pace - since 2010, the price of solar energy has dropped by 81%. However, solar has just hit a massive milestone.
The Department of Energy had just announced that the price of solar has reached 6 cents per KWh, which was a goal set by the Obama administration in 2011. The average US consumer pays around 12 cents per Kwh, making this very competitive for providing electricity. But even more impressively, the target was slated for 2020, meaning it was hit 3 years ahead of schedule.
These amazing price reductions haven't gone without results - solar was the most added generation technology to the grid last year. Wind was second, representing an amazing shift to renewable energy. Furthermore, solar has a new goal according to the Department of Energy - 3 cents per KWh by the year 2030.

I have solar power and my rate is at 6.8c/KWh. Very similar, however our normal electricity rate is 32c/ KWh. Our electricity prices are among the highest in the world.
Wow! At those rates it's pretty much irresistible, I have to wonder why everyone wouldn't have it.
Probably because it is quite expensive to install. The 6.8c/KWh is only for the electricity fed back into the grid. we still get charged the rate of 32c/KWh in normal circumstances.
