Great article. I'm dealing with some of these issues as well.. Some very valid points! I appreciate you penning this article and also the rest of the blog is really good.
It’s hard to find quality writing like yours these days. I really appreciate individuals like you! Take care!!
Thank you @rockz
I don't have a modern microprocessor , so I don't have to be scarred , because I read on wikipedia that "Spectre is a vulnerability with implementations of branch prediction that affects modern microprocessors ". Mine is from 2014 so i don't mind to worry about that xD.
Ohh..But wikipedia says that already published several procedures to help protect home computers and related devices from the Spectre and Meltdown security vulnerabilities. So I still have worry?
Yes but nothing can stop the hackers, because they always find a new way to exploit , how did you say.Even they will publish patches and will stop these hackers from now , in the future will be other who could exploit that patch. I mean this is my opinion , or maybe they will be stopped definitive :) .
I have Linux hosting but am not okay with it because it too leggy nowadays..my sit sucks a lot, the main speed issue I'm facing nowadays. WELL, thanks a ton for providing this info about this attack
I’m amazed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a post that’s equally educative and engaging, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head.
The issue Spectre & Meltdown Checker for Linux is something too few men and women are speaking intelligently about.
I am very happy that I came across this during my hunt for something concerning this.
I just want to add some little tips that If you want to check Linux for Spectre and Meltdown vulnerability
Awesome article dude! Thank you so much @rockz
Run the script as root user using sudo command or su command:
A simple shell script to tell if your Linux installation is vulnerable against the 3 "speculative execution" CVEs that were made public early 2018.
Without options, it'll inspect your currently running kernel. You can also specify a kernel image on the command line, if you'd like to inspect a kernel you're not running.
The script will do its best to detect mitigations, including backported non-vanilla patches, regardless of the advertised kernel version number.
Meltdown and Spectre security flaws have helped reveal fundamental issues with processor designs over the past 20 years, and the software updates to protect PCs will have performance impacts. Even as I write this, it’s still not clear exactly how bad these performance impacts will be for older desktop systems, or how significant they’ll be to server-based cloud platforms. But system backup is important.
Thanks
I used Linux Ubuntu version which is cool one. At least batter than creepy windows operating system. I didn't hear this term 'Spectre and Meltdown' that's why I'm so glad you have given useful information about this script to escape from this attack.
Thank you for sharing the script !
Indeed you have no other possibility as waiting for kernel updates because this vulnerability is on such a low level. At least some of the most common Distros where patched...
Guess many admins had a lot of stress the last days..
i will follow you - interesting content :)

I'll not understand it completely because I'm just a beginner in programming. I just read programming subjects as a syllabus. 😆
Thank you for sharing the script !
