Some of you might already heard of this but it seems that Valve has stopped the development of SteamOS.
What are the reasons?
If you remember back in 2014 Windows had his Windows 8 released and their focus was set more to business. Gamer were second class user and unhappy with their new OS.
Console Gaming had become very popular during the last years. The kids are now adult men and women - while playing on a console becomes casual. It's not the hardcore gamer anymore who are playing consoles.
At that point SteamOS wants to be both - a PC console: Couch-Gaming with PC TOP Performance!
I was so exited when I read the first post about SteamOS and was kind of ready for trying this out.
But then silence...Alienware (Dell) and some other manufactures had built some of those Steamachines - those hybrid PC-Console-Things.
But there was never a break even point and years went by.
During last week I read a report that SteamOS is dead and Steam itself does not promote it anymore.
Reasons?
-MS with Windows 10 set his focus back to Gamers!
-SteamOS, which is Linux based never got that popular support by Game-Developers..just about 4000 of 12.000 Games which are available at Steam were deployed to SteamOS...most indygames.
The AAA-Titles never came that far.
I'm asking you now: Had you SteamOS and were you happy with it?
