Inside a CPU - [Tech Mojo]

A brief look at how a CPU works.

A CPU, or Central Processing Unit can be found in almost every electronic device, most prevalent in Personal computers, Tablets, Phones, TV's, and more.

It is the brain of any computer and it does what your brain does.
If you want to lift your arm. Your brain receives the instruction and then send electrical signals and you lift your arm. The same way as if you want to flip someone off you don't like.

To start you have the CPU which is connected to a bus. This bus is comprised of 3 elements. The Data bus, address bus and the input/output bus. The data bus is what the CPU wants to access, the address bus is the location of the data and these travel through the IO bus which is connected to RAM and peripherals.
The Ram is where the command and result are stored and peripherals are your mouse, keyboard etc.

Inside the CPU has many parts, but the basics are....
1st – you have your Clock. This is basically like an on off switch measured in Hz. This can cycle over a billion times a second.

2nd – Program counter. Its job is to measure the clock speed, It is used to calculate how far along a program is and how fast it can produce a result.

3rd – instruction Fetch unit which is connected to the address bus which will find and allocate information in the memory.

4th – Instruction decoder receives information from the Data bus. This will tell the all the components of the CPU what to do with this new information.

5th - arithmetic logic unit is responsible for the math and logic computations for the CPU. It is able to compare data and form a result from this.

6th – CPU registers are the memory unit for the CPU comprising of 3 types. Data, Control and Store.
This is connected to everything inside the CPU and allocates data too and from each component

Think of it like the Army. A Private wants a transfer to another base. He asks his Sargent. He retrieves the paperwork, the private fills it out. That is sent to a general, he reviews it. Its then authorized by an admiral. And then sent back to the private who then moves to another base. And the postal service responsible for the paperwork is like the clock. The faster the clock the faster the paperwork is sent and received.

Bad analogy i know. But that is the basics of a CPU function.
