Technology has been undergoing rapid changes in the last few years. As innovation beings happening all over, we are forced to harness technology as a resource that can improve social, environmental, and physical aspects of our lives. As a result, some theorists argue that we might have already “made a deal with the devil".
Technology offers easy access to information and communications for almost every citizen of the world. However, even good things can be dangerous when misused. The common argument is that people affect technology more than it’s affecting humans - we routinely use computational resources without much concern for what they require while other concerns like lack of privacy and security matters are regarded as less important.
Trying to help change users' habits, companies encourage AI technologies that correspond with human ethics; Artificial Intelligence powered apps like Google Assistant already provide contextual suggestions based on users' browsing habits or moods.
Technology is beneficial, practical, and efficient to use in many aspects of society. Humans' relationship with it has been relatively positive. Embracing progress not only avoids repeating historically tragic outcomes but also affords opportunity as we advance as a civilization into a powerful state.
Thus, there are four possible negative side effects that anyone living in a time before rapid modernization would have faced. These include mental load resulting from pressing tasks, poverty during times of change, deviance from social norms, and potential for abuse when AI improves automation in multiple fields such as technology, medicine, education, and others resulting from an overreliance on technology for its success.
The implementation of new technologies has tremendously improved life for many people in the contemporary era but it doesn't come without hardships of this supposed fast pace because these developments bring about change as well which can be disruptive at times resulting in an uneven distribution of advantages and disadvantages sometimes both equally abundant.
