Hi guys,
Today i am going to talk on Gasifiers,
I mentioned it in my last two post but did not explain it.
Gasifiers generally are plants or equipment's that can converts
wastes into synthesis gas or syn gas.
The wastes can be aggro waste, Municipal solid waste, Animal waste etc.
The gasifier has four major zones namily;
Drying zone,
Pyrolysis zone,
Combustion Zone and
Reduction zone.
1.Drying Zone:
The biomass which is the agro waste most times contains some amount of moisture.
Most times,it is advisible to heat it up to about 100 degree centigrate to convert the moisture to steam,
this is done in the drying zone.
2.Pyrolysis zone:
The pyrolysis zone starts after the drying have been complited.
pyrolysis in a simple term involves burning the watste (biomass) complitely without any
addition or supply of oxygen.
This process makes the biomass to decomposs into three forms.
a. Solids: This is the charcoal that is formed
b. Liquid form: this is the tar that is formed
c. Gases: The flue gas makes up the gas part.
3.Oxidation zone:
After the pyrolyss zone has taken place,
air is introduced into the gasfier through the air vent as in the picture above,
this introduced air with its oxigen content reacts with the solid part of the decomposed biomass
to produce carbon dioxide (CO2) and heat.

4.Reduction zone:
At this zone, considering the high temperature, and when oxygen is reduced,
The synthesis gas is fomed
Hydrogen, carbon dioxide, methane etc.
This is subject to cooling and cleaning for efficient cleaner gas.
If this is applied in most of our rural communities,
the dependency of fossil fuel will be minimized.
