Thoughts
How to Get Away With Murder starts off with Annalise Keating, a renowned criminal defense attorney and a law professor at Middleton University as she pick five of her best students to intern at her law firm. Little did these students know that this will be the starting point on which their lives become messy. Cover ups after cover ups to hide their tracks after they got involved in a real life murder conspiracy.
There are a lot of crime dramas nowadays, but what makes 'How to Get Away with Murder' different than the others is that the protagonists here are the opposite of those justice-seeking saintly main characters from other shows. Here, they are the defender of criminals, they are the ones trying to find a way to absolve their clients. How interesting and unique is that, right?
One of the known main issue of the show however, is the "inaccurate" portrayal of lawyers. Many people feel that the way cases are resolved are way over the top and I also feel the same way. However, let's be honest, if the show actually tries to portray how lawyers are in the real world, then it would probably just end up with the characters filling up paperworks and giving out tear-jerking speeches in court for a little bit of sympathy out of the judges and jury. No one's gonna watch that.
I've got to admit that I honestly thought this would be one of those episodic crime dramas in which we get the resolution at the end of the episode. But no, well a semi no. How to Get Away with Murder is presented in a "In medias res" format, which means scenes are gradually filled either by dialogues or by flashbacks. In this case, we get little piece of flashbacks every episode leading to what happened in the present. So if you are one of those people who easily got annoyed with lots of flashbacks then you have been warned. However, this kind of setup is also the reason why HTGAWM is successful in the suspense, mystery and thriller genre.
How to Get Away with Murder is one those shows that has a seemingly simple yet complex storyline but will really draw everyone in. It has many unpredictable plot twists that will totally caught you off guard. The series also doesn't mind showing some 'gay sex' once in a while, which quite frankly I think was hot but if you are one of those homophobes, then I suggest you stay out of it. Overall, I give this show a 8.5/10.
I love HTGAWM, thought this last season is been kind of a letdown. Things promise to get more interesting with the upcoming episodes. So let us hope for some great drama.
I thought so too, but when you put together all the episodes this season it actually is great. Though I have to admit that the first seasons were much better, it still is a series worth watching for :)
Very nice review! Do you recommend it to someone who doesnt watch this genre?
Yeah totally. Although the first episode would probably confuse someone who's not used to such genre. It has a lot of back and forth between the past and the present due to the flashbacks. But it is a great show. :)
Ok thank you very much!

Really nice tv, at first I wasn't sure about it - all these characters, a lot to keep track of, but no... It's actually really good.
