I was unaware they were doing a TV show. It took me forever to get around to watching The Purge, and I've only seen the first in the series, but it was pleasantly not the movie I expected going in. A bit heavy-handed in exploring social themes, but much, much better than some brianless torture-porn.

I stopped reading at the spoiler warning, so forgive me if I missed info on this, but I highly recommend you check out at least the first movie. Based on your DVR, we seem to have similar tastes.

Yes, I did go on to say that I think this first episode has convinced me to go back and try watching the films. While the show has the social issues, it has a lot of character building I think which makes it much better than what I personally thought I would expect from the films. Funny you should mention "torture-porn" - that is partially what I had always expected the films would be like. Good to know they aren't.

One caveat, I've only seen the first so I cannot speak to the themes of the others.

Holy smoking cowdung! that is A LOT of T.V! No wonder you don't sleep!

haha - yeah, the majority of the time I am sitting here at the computer I have something going on the TV. There are certain shows where it can be "watched in the background" - basically where I dont have to watch every scene, and can listen to it all. Of course then there are things with lots of visual things where if you look away you are going to miss it and have to rewind. A lot of the time those are the ones that pile up on the DVR.

Cool post, Gene. I skipped the movie too. I felt that the main premise of the film will be under-utilized and seem senseless lol. But I think it suits the TV format better where the characters can be developed and the psychology can be explored. Plus, if it will have the Mr. Robot treatment, that would be awesome ;)

Too bad I can't check out the first episode. Country restricted.

That's weird! I get that restricted messages here in the US a lot because many things they want us to find in a specific spot and pay for it. I was surprised to see this for free on YouTube.
