1 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
2 Thou salt not make unto thee any graven image.
3 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain.
4 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5 Honour thy father and mother.
6 Thou shalt not kill.
7 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8 Thou shalt not steal.
9 Thou shalt not bear false witness.
10 Thou shalt not covet.
These are some of the thoughts I have, a debate about these laws made by domineering priests and not an all powerful deity would no doubt inspire more.
When you really think about it the fist four are about controlling priests making a living at the expense of others (i.e.: cut out the opposition).
It is interesting to note the reference to “Lord” in the third?
The fifth is a reasonable law provided your parents look after you properly.
The sixth is common sense if you wish to live in a stable group (it is assumed it is about killing each other).
The seventh really depends on the social norms in which you find yourself, although I can see the merit in it to avoid conflict in the group.
The eight is common sense if you wish to live in a stable group.
The ninth is common sense if you wish to live in a stable group.
The tenth seems OK as long as you keep the thought to yourself, it would be common sense if you wish to live in a stable group and not have conflict.
What are your thoughts?
