Phosphorus is an indispensable chemical element in agriculture, for which the ingenuities of agronomists and scientists have found no substitute.
This is found in vegetables and most of the terrestrial rocks, reaching the earth to store quadrillion tons of phosphorus. However, paradise has a gate at the entrance, and that is that phosphorus is in meager amounts to be used, making its exploitation ruinous in the economic aspect.
The rocks and vegetables have phosphate proportions much less than 1%. Where to get it then? Phosphate rock is the only solution.
With 68,000 million tons on earth, this rock allows us security for our agriculture for 260 years. However, another problem appears in the muzzle, as the bulk of its reserves are in Morocco. A little more is found in China, Syria and Algeria, the first producers after Morocco.
There are those who assure that the phosphate rock will see its peak during the next decades, some affirm that in 2030, being an element as essential as it is, we could even see the birth of a phosphate geopolitics.
A new order where the producing countries press, and others motivate wars to get hold of the precious resource.
But there is also another alternative. Today there are resources for 260 years, but we must value that technology advances more and more. If it grew enough, who knows. Perhaps in a few decades we will be able to access reserves that are currently inaccessible. After all, that has already happened in the past with other natural resources.
Let's cross our fingers and develop science, because it can save us from the dreaded food collapse, putting ingenuity at the service of fertilizing the fields.
