Madrid - Rafael Nadal continues his move at the Madrid Open. This tennis player stepped into the quarterfinals after winning two sets over Diego Schwartzman.
Compete on the field Manolo Santana, Friday (11/05/2018) pm dawn, Nadal had no trouble to pass the third round. The world number one won 6-3 and 6-4 over Schwartzman.
The win did not only bring Nadal into the quarterfinals, but also made him carve a record. The 31-year-old made 50 consecutive set wins on a field surface, where Nadal carved it in the clay arena.
The previous record was held by John McEnroe since 1984, which won 49 sets in a row on the surface of the carpet. The victory over Schwartzman was Nadal's 21st straight victory on clay.
Next Nadal will face Swiss Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals. In addition to Nadal, second seed tournament Alexander Zverev also stepped in the last eight.
The German made Leonardo Mayer two straight sets with 6-4 and 6-2. Next Zverev will face John Isner.
In the other quarter-finals, Kevin Anderson will face qualifier from Serbia, Dusan Lajovic. British athlete Kyle Edmund was challenged by Canadian Denis Shapovalov.
