So, I seen my first Tesla Cybertruck in the wild today. I was out shopping for some holiday lights and it was parked near my motorcycle when I came out of the store. I had to snap a quick picture.
I have to say, it's one of the most bizarre looking vehicles I've ever seen. I don't think images really do them justice. In person, it's like you're approaching a spaceship or something. Just, truly strange looking and completely out of place from all the other cars in the parking lot. I mean the thing sticks out!
The truck looks like something out of a Roblox game come to life. Considering the weather here, the truck was understandably a little dirty. I found the stainless steel finish lacking. You can even see a slight difference in color between the front and rear panels. That's not camera angle, that's actually there.
I wasn't really impressed with the wheels either. Seriously, I'm not knocking it, or hating on it. I just don't get it. I'd say the price tag on this thing is obscene, but I've been truck shopping lately, and even Ford and Chevy trucks are ridiculously high right now. Or the dealers are high. Or maybe I'm high for even thinking about a new truck. IDK...
The Cybertruck is unique. I guess if you really want to stand out, it does just that. I suppose it's also a bit of a status symbol. Some people, with different tastes, might even love everything about it. IDK, I just couldn't see it and honestly, I expected a little more WoW factor in person that I just didn't experience.
Maybe, I'm missing the entire point and it's all about functionality. Or maybe the wow factor is in the EV part of it. Whatever it is, I ain't getting it. Still, it was really cool to see one up close and in person.
I get the EV part, that's the only part I get.
Have you seen one of these in person?
Love it / hate it?
Thoughts?
there is a chance i will never see one, i doubt they are legal in Europe :D
i must say i have no idea what to think about it from the moment they started selling.
And the prices of everything are a bit crazy, except Chinese cars, but they will probably also be expensive when they come here, because protecting the industry.
An electric SUV for $15K, with everything you need and over 500km range sounds crazy
You know this strikes a huge nerve with me. I'm a little salty about the Chinese EV market too. Supposedly we have global warming. We're all going to die if we don't change. Entire oceanside cities will disappear if something isn't done. They have a tax to prevent that and we should all be driving electric vehicles only they're too expensive for the average person.
Solution: The Chinese come along with $15K SUVs, cars, and trucks only we can't have them!
Seriously, WTF is going on! Is there a global climate crisis or not? Sorry, but the wrong people are profiting, you must continue to destroy your planet. This is a huge issue and debate here as well. Sorry for the mini rant, but seriously, somethings not right.
If our governments are so worried about it, they need to figure out how to level the playing field. In the meantime, I'd like my cheap, environmentally friendly EV please!
LOL, didn't mean to get all serious. Am I making to much of this or do I have a valid point?
You’ve absolutely got a valid point, and honestly, I share many of your frustrations. There’s so much talk about combating climate change, but very little real action that actually makes a difference for the average person. It feels like the wrong people are profiting—governments in Europe and the US seem more focused on lining their own pockets than creating affordable, effective solutions.
Meanwhile, citizens are expected to make these massive, often unaffordable investments. If you can’t pay, well, too bad—you’ll just end up with nothing. It reminds me of Klaus Schwab’s infamous words: “You will own nothing and you will be happy.”
The Chinese are offering affordable solutions, but of course, that’s not what the West wants. Heaven forbid we actually make sustainable living accessible to ordinary people! The more I think about it, the clearer it becomes just how messed up this all is.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It's good to know I’m not the only one seeing the cracks in this system.
Likewise, it's good to know there are people of like thought out there. I can't believe more people aren't talking about the "cracks in the system" as you put it. I do think A LOT of people are waking up to it all though.
That does seem to be the road they are taking too. Make everything unaffordable for individual ownership. There's definitely some kind of weird agenda at play IMHO.
Thanks for the awesome comment!
what is even worse, we don't have a car industry. One we had died 20 years ago, and we gave a lot of money to subsidy a assembly plant for Fiat. And that didn't work for few years now, with plans to make new small EV that will be almost double in price.
And there is maybe max 5% of population that could afford a new EV.
but yes lets kill cows because of global warming 🤷♂
And don't forget to protect the airports worldwide because the people who still do have some money must be able to fly 6 times a year for a well-deserved break, right?
Don't touch the edges, you might slash your fingers!
The lines, edges, and corners are wild. I was wondering if it has stealth capabilities to evade radar. 🤣 It kind of reminds of like a stealth aircraft but in automobile form.
I saw one today at Discount Tire.. not a fan.. to boxy.. to ugly.. and then I met the guy driving it.. does the word douche mean anything to you..
LMAO... I was kind of thinking about waiting around to see who got in it.
LOL Douchemobile. 🤣
I don't even know what to say about that Tesla Cyber Truck, but I think you get it with a few simple words. "Not my cup of tea". 😌
Well said!
It is sort of futuristic, but then it looks like it was drawn by a child. I've heard it is not that great as a truck when it comes to load capacity. The US obsession with big trucks seems strange to us over here, but we have to get away from burning oil. We are leasing a Chinese EV as it's actually pretty good.
The fact that Musk got all politically radical has made his vehicles more divisive.
I'm on Bluesky and his politics have completely alienated him from the left. I mean, they really don't like him or his brand anymore.
I don't get it either, besides the functionality. Most of the people driving them, don't need them. The rest are driving some form of SUV. You don't see a lot of normal cars outside the cities. I was thinking about a small work truck for the resell business. Which they really don't even do "small" here anymore. The big trucks are ridiculously priced to the point where I really can't justify it.
I would totally consider this if we had access to them. I was researching some of them and they seem perfect for back and forth to work and errands around the neighborhood.
Honestly, it's this type of "hypocrisy" in policy that creates climate deniers and I kind of get it. Not justifying it, but I get where they're coming from.
I’ve seen a few of them down here. The first one had a guy in it who had a massive smile on his face as everyone kept slowing down to drive right along the side of it and take a good look. He seemed to be in no rush to get anywhere.
I think they are cool looking. Quite odd as well. It’s just nice to see something rather different out there. It’s a shame so many of them are having all kinds of issues.
They also ended up being on the news after the hurricanes. EVs and saltwater don’t mix well together. It seems a few were totaled out.
I have heard and read that.
No they do not. I've also heard they don't do very well in the cold which is kind of important where I live. I was actually surprised to see it for that reason, although, Tesla cars are very popular around the city.
I've seen several (living in Texas, and especially when we were in Austin for a conference), but I just have to say it looks like someone built it in their garage with pieces of metal they found lying around.
It kind of reminds me of the Simpson's episode where Homer builds a car. It just doesn't look like a practical design at all and yes, I agree it does look like it was fabricated with scrap metal. 😂
OK, just had to add this. Posted by a friend on Bluesky! LMAO
