Text Messaging has been around for longer than most of us can remember. Likely, there are those who, only know With such widespread acceptance and usage in our culture, I’m amazed that people often pay little if any attention to text messages received on their mobile devices.
The mobile phone has become a misnomer in our verbal lexicon. The mobile phone that many of us carry around with us, is only occasionally used as a phone. Rather it is a mobile multimedia device. We watch videos, get our latest news, get directions as we drive, and order food among a plethora of other things.
There are those I know who would rather not have people call them, and instead simply text them. Possibly the multitude of communication applications that have, over the years, sprung up like so many dandelions is the cause of our discontent.
Life was simpler when we had only a landline home phone. It was our sole means of reaching out to communicate with family, friends, and business associates. The amount of communication applications boggles the mind and of course, everyone has their own favorite application to use. The applications that your friends, family, and business associates make use of for communication are all unique and are not likely the ones that you use.
If people are so reluctant to make use of text messaging, how does anyone encourage them to make use of the tool available to them? How does a business create value for their customers to get them to pay attention to text messages that are being sent? Do they offer incentives? Do they offer contests? Do they encourage feedback from these customers and potential customers to inspire loyalty?
How best can a business be authentic in its interactions with its current customers and potential customers, to maintain customer service and in spite of the lack of personal interaction?
