One thing has always stayed the same, I will always be a Weekend Warrior. Whether I like it or not, I count down the days throughout the week until Friday hits. I sometimes say to myself, this is not a good way to live... too long for a day. I then realise although it maybe laced with negative connotations in my mind it plays an important part in my role and my sanity. It just seems so cliche.
It has become a ritual of mine and my colleagues, that we all wind down together every Friday night. I work in a small team of creatives and we all juggle different roles amongst our collective. It can be at times stressful for all. Friday night is our saviour, a stiff drink is our release and good reflection on the week allows us to close it's door and throw ourselves into the weekend.
The positive side of this ritual is, we all need things to look forward to in life. Goals or milestones. It helps us push through when times are tough and they help us reach new levels.
It can keep you motivated through the week.
The negative side these wind down sessions can easily get out of hand and instead of feeling refreshed for the weekend, you body ends up paying a hefty price as you just pushed things too hard.
When does enough become enough?
There is a binge drinking culture amongst 20 somethings, which seems to start in your teens. It has been widely reported the damaging effects that excessive consumption can have.... but seldom is it actually listened to. Most often than not you here "YOLO" or "It won't happen to me"....
What I have witnessed and learnt myself, it is all about healthy moderation. The ability to say enough is enough. The good times don't keep on rolling and it's okay to miss out on the rest of the party.
However, what is forsure. This ritual is important to me and it's important to celebrate the weeks and days we are alive on this planet, because life is short. But, that doesn't mean you should throw your life down a bottle and into oblivion in the process. It means enjoy it and enjoy it healthily.
Tonight, I have a beer bottle in one hand and a party insight. I'm going to experience it for everything that it is worth, but I'm also going to go home early. As life is too short to miss out on blissful Saturday mornings.
