Soap opera arguably has always been one of the most prominent aspect of the contemporary Thai culture in general. Viewers will be on a hunt for the most ear-catching dialogues to publish on Twitter, waiting for the 10k retweet to happen.
Of course, all this wouldn’t be possible without a great camera team and attractive and talented casts, who capture the hearts of a lot of Thais out there.
Whether you’re meeting a business friend from Thailand, or happen to be dating a Thai woman in her early 20s, or 30s, she will either be an avid watcher of these series, or the one who eschews herself from local movies, immersing herself fully into Western/Foreign entertainment instead. But if she’s the former, you might wanna keep on reading!
Some series do make it into the discourse on social issues, like a recent movie about a rape survivor on her hunt to annihilate all her rapists (ล่า [‘Hunt’], 2017), as well as about the issue of teen pregnancy (คุณแม่วัยใส [‘Innocent Mother’], 2017). Unfortunately, Thai soap opera has been slammed for featuring male protagonist doing sexual harassment on female characters quite frequently as well, in which the news agency Khaosod English has done an in-depth analysis on. [Khaosod literally means "live news"]
Anyway, these are some actresses (some already successful enough to make it into primetime soaps), who are lauded around the Thai social media as the most attractive in the year 2017, who are very likely to star in more sensational films this year!
Let me know down below who you think is the most attractive!
7) Thunyaphat Pa-teerachai-chareon (Namfah)

)
Namfah has starred as the main protagonist “Boum”, in the horror movie “The Promise” (2017), which is based on the deadly (and unexpected) 1997 financial crisis in Thailand (that have led to suicides during that time, and arguably, annihilating the prospect of Thailand become the “Tiger of Asia” which was all around the news at that time), produced by the same producer of the blockbuster “Bad Genius” which has become a global box office hit and the highest grossing Thai film in the year 2017.
She is featured in some music video and is currently working under Channel 3.
6. Saratchan Ploybut (Lugjun)
Instagram: 26.1 thousands followers @llugjunn
Lugjun began her career by casting in the “Young model 2012” contest when she was only 13 years old. She has played in series along with a nationwide-famed cast James Jirayu once. She currently studies at Dhurakij Pundit University in an international program.
5. Narikun Ketprapakorn (Frung)
Instagram: 1.8 million followers @frungnarikunn
In addition to having played in the most famous of primetime like “Hormones” in the past, she has done a TED talk back in 2016 which has since accumulated over 500k views now. You can watch it with an auto-translate caption on Youtube. In the TED talk, to sum up, she talked about her past fears about being judged by other people, which stopped her from doing or socializing with people who might be slightly “odd” in fear of being ostracized, and how she finds out later on that most of the judgemental people out there are probably just “filling their own void”, and that her fears of being judged are unfounded. She is currently a medical student at Chulalongkorn University, but still manages to pull off the series “Project S” which is currently aired on “LINE TV”.
4. Apichaya Thongkam (lilly)
Instagram: 450k followers @lilly_apichaya
A beauty contestant in the second season of a famous model contest in Thailand “The Face”. Her extraordinary height (171 cm) at the age of only 13 years old, ensured her spot into the Face, and a career in the industry. Lilly has also played in the movie “The Promise”. She is now 15 years old.
3. Sutatta Udomsilp (Punpun)
Instagram: 5.9 million followers (@punpun_sutatta)
Debuting in TV show at the age of 11, and in films at 14, Punpun has been through more than almost any of her fellow actresses, ranging from cocaine scandal to a feud with the other celebrity which prompted her to resign from her original agency “Nadao”. However, her place and fame remain unshaken and she has become one of the most famous actresses in Thailand to this day. She is currently 20 years old and is studying in Chulalongkorn University.
2. Ramida Jiranorraphat (Jane)
Instagram: 443k followers (@janeeyeh)
A Thai-Taiwanese actress, after not able to make it in the Korean recruiting agencies, returns to Thailand and is now working under GMM Grammy. Jane is now 18 years old and has played as a teen mom for “คุณแม่วัยใส” which has garnered attention nationwide as the film addresses a controversial subject about teen pregnancy. She is currently studying at Bangkok University.
- Narupornkamol Chaisang (Praew)
Instagram: 1 million followers (@Narupornkamol)
Praew has featured in Hormones, arguably one of the most famous Thai series in the past decade, as well as in several music videos of famous bands like Room 39. In her Hormones day, she has garnered the netizens’ attention around Twitter and Facebook through her looks which are similar to an another senior star “Khemanit Jamikorn”. She is 19 years old and is currently studying at Bangkok University.
While many Thai TV shows are soft entertainment, and are usually second-rate at best, Thailand does have a great team of directors who once in a while does manage to pull off international sensations such as the thrilling film of “Bad Genius” about cheating an exam, The Overture and etc.
Who knows… you can one day try to impress your Thai friends by asking them about these celebrities as well!
