Origin Story - Planet of Lepan
Volume 1
This story starts on a planet we now call Lepan.
In a time forgotten…
When this planet was in its infancy.
Plants and fungi cover the landscape. Lush rivers burst through the greenery and feed into grand lakes and oceans.
The planet’s surface is mostly land mass and mountain with vegetation covering its surface.
A truly beautiful planet to behold in this day. Plenty of microbes and insects of various nature seem to be thriving yet no larger creatures. No beasts roam this land. Completely untouched by the tools and weapons of a sentient species and full of life. Lush greenery as far as the eye can see in every direction.
Atop one of the largest mountains lived an enormous mycelial mat.
The largest living organism on the planet, a massive fungal body that produces the most magnificent blue mushroom. Just below the surface layer of soil this massive entity lay, as large as a forest itself. Creating symbiotic relationships with a multitude of thick vegetation yet preventing certain species from living in the soil that surrounds it as any great mycelial mat will do.
Like a bolt of light, a meteorite crashes to the ground from somewhere unseen! Killing off over half of the mycelial mat and leaving only a ring of its vastness alive at the top of the mountain.
An enormous crater lay at its center now smoldering as smoke fills the air in a giant thick cloud that blacked out the sun…
As the smoke begins to dissipate, a single large crystal with a subtle green glow appears nestled comfortably within the giant crater.
There is a loud crash as a bolt of lightning hits the crystal and it shatters into a glitter of pieces and settles to the ground below. It begins to downpour a very heavy rain as the dust from the crystal is pushed by the water into mostly one spot at the lowest point of the crater.
As the rain dries up, we see a pile of softly glowing green dust laying like sand in a newly formed creek bed at the base of the crater.
There it sits for many, many sun cycles as the mycelial mat begins to recover its girth by taking over the soil of the new crater. In time this mat re grows back to its original size...
With its growth, the area becomes green again and full of life.
As the mat begins to reach the creek bed at the bottom of the crater it finally begins to connect with the dust.
The dust, upon contact with the mycelium, dissolves into it as if it had been waiting for it.
Beginning to assimilate the dust, the mycelial mat seems to dissipate the dust throughout its full body. As this happens the mat starts to have a glow about it. A soft and subtle green glow seen from beneath the soil where it lays.
It feeds and grows as normal...
yet now with another purpose.
