People do not buy goods and services. They buy relations, stories and magic. - Seth Godin
Then let's do some magic, Seth.
Decentralized networks provide content creators with special rights - such as the freedom of speech without censorship - but they also assign us with certain duties.
It's in the nature of things that in a self-governed eco-system their participants need to assume specific responsibilities. The positive development and growth of the network should be our all main ambition.
Now that even the media has started to put steemit in the focus of interest, we need to appear at our best more than ever.
We don't even need to be a developer to build amazing things on this blockchain.
@surfermarly promoting Steemit (how do you like my new shirt?)
We're all #steemit ambassadors 💙
One essential characteristic of a decentralized system is the fact that there isn't a central management that takes care of everything.
What often happens on steemit is that people celebrate their newly acquired freedom as long as everything is alright. But once they're facing a problem they can't solve at once, they tend to demand back their good old power structure, someone they can call to account for their misery.
It's time to realize that Steemit Inc. is not responsible for the numbers in our wallets neither the behavior of individuals on this platform 😉
Freedom is not a temporary agreement. It's a given promise, in good times and in bad.
Also self-government doesn't mean that all the problems we had before suddenly disappear. It means that we exchanged our old challenges for some new and different ones.
Self government won't work without self-discipline. - Paul Harvey
We're all in charge.
You want to be part of a positive, contributive, supportive and wealthy community? Well then be positive, contributive and supportive in order to accumulate wealth.
Our doings need to set a good example - especially for new users that join the community.
Consider this network to be your home, welcome new people at the door, shake hands, wish them a good start, answer their questions, provide support, show them opportunities.
Instead of complaining about quality, spam or unfair distribution of rewards, we could rather focus on creating the content we'd love to find here.
Self-government requires powerful personalities, people that stand up for what they love. People that follow a passion and talk about it, that find pleasure in inspiring others and being inspired.
It's all about being proactive.
That's actually how these networks and communities are kept alive. If there is no proactive contribution, then there is no progress.
Progress is progress - no matter how small. Sometimes progress is our efforts and not our results.
There will be always some that want it a little bit more than others.
As in real life so on the blockchain: through natural selection the stronger ones will survive.
We may have equal chances, but not equal results. And that's totally okay!
Self-development and personal growth is something to be performed and achieved - and not something to be given for free. We're all small puzzle pieces of something bigger, we all matter.
So the better we perform, the stronger the network will grow.
We don't grow by underlining our weakness, we grow by pushing our excellence.
One of the most exciting characteristics of this place is that its future lies in our hands.
It all depends on our own choices, our will to contribute and to shape.
So let's choose excellence, let's assume full responsibility and help this place to keep being outstanding. Every day.
Let's do some steemy magic
Marly -
Thanks for your valuable time!

This gif was inspired by yours. I love your blog because there is always inspiration here and something new to learn. You are a good ambassador, and u practice what u preach.
Thank you for sharing this
Spot on!
Haha, that's a cool animated GIF. I like your shirt :-)
Thanks for your lovely words!!!
Was für ein Beitrag! :)
Hut ab.
Wie recht du hast.
Es gibt kein zentrales Management, deshlab muss die Community ran. Wie du sagst wir stehen alle in der Verantwortung hier auf der Plattform zu bewirken
Da muss sich jeder hinterfragen.
Dear Marly, thanks so much for your statements. All are so true. Sometimes I wonder where you take all the very considerable citations from. It seems you have studied philosophy, not computer science.
Yes, that's what you are doing here all the time. I wish we could meet again personally to talk about our mindset regarding steemit and the small rest of the universe. Today we have our next "Steemit Stammtisch Munich" at Cafe Westend - and I promise I will think about you. And I will miss you.
@freiheit50 my friend!
It's always such a pleasure reading your comments :-)
I'd love to be there tonight, you need to have a Weißbier on me, please!
Haha, maybe I've just passed through a lot of (weird) situations in my life that helped me to understand people and their behavior. I guess empathy is something that helps you to come further in any area - even in computer science :-)
Big hugs and enjoy the meetup!
This is exactly my goal here! Improving things so that I could find more content I like. Improving means rewarding the good instead of flagging the bad! That is my mojo :D
I completely share your mojo, @lemouth! :-)
and you are one of the best ambassadors of all!
Danke, mein Lieber 😍 Haste mein neues Shirt gesehen? Sind heute angekommen, war wie Weihnachten, haha!
Es ist mir erst jetzt aufgefallen, alles andere wäre gelogen - Blau auf Grau passt immer
Haha. Hab auch blau auf dunkelblau - geht auch :-)
"With great power comes responsibilities." It is quite a proof-of-concept in form of reputation in steemit. Steemitians with rating 70s and above are really good content creators and great ambassadors too. It is amazing how the decentralized system like steemit make it workable. Thanks @surfermarly for being a living proof of that :)
Thank YOU for stopping by and for leaving such a lovely compliment! :)
Of course, the content of the top performers is even more visible since they get better rankings. However, this is an open website, accessible to everybody all over the world. We're all part of the puzzle.
"We're all #steemit ambassadors" you say.
I agree completely and each of us needs to do what we can to bring more people to our community.
Talk about it, post Steemit links you like on the other networks, resteem and just generally let people know what you're doing. Down the road, we will all have been the trail blazers and reap the rewards.
I upvote all comments and replies to all of my post to help my fellow Steemians earn Steemit rewards and gain voting power! That's one way we can all help other while the community builds.
upvoted and resteemed.
You are indeed very right @bigsilver promoting steemit starts from individually taking strides to build the community and most importantly, indulge the participation of others. Good Read.
Thanks, my pleasure.
I'll continue following and reading your posts as well.
all the best
Yeah, that's exactly how it works :-)
Thanks for your encouragement and support, @bigsilver!
I checked out your web site as well.
I like what you are doing and have commented a few times in the past.
I'll keep reading and watching.
all the best.
Thank you very much! That's too kind.
See you around and all the best to you, too :-)
Marly,
Thank you for your constantly positive attitude about everything.
I need to hear it! ;)
Surf on, surfer girl... :D
😄😇😄
It's my pleasure @creatr!!!
Thank YOU for always being around :-)
Today is bank holiday at my place, so guess where to find me... haha
Bank holiday? Hahahahaha!
I'm looking for the day when every day is a bank holiday, because we only need Steem and other crypto... ;)
Hugs! :D
Oh yeah! Bank holidays and never ending swells :-)
This is my first time seeing you and what an impact you have made with me. Each of us have the same obligations, responsibilities and chances as one another. Now, how we chose to use them and uphold them is the question. When a platform is open like this one, we will soon see the true nature of a person. Oh, and your shirt and logo are adorable!
Thanks for your kindness, @themerrylotus! I'm happiest that this post inspired you in such way :-)
You are absolutely right: it's an open place, everybody is able to look at us and our doings - so that's a chance and a duty at the very same time.
I think we're already doing pretty well btw! :-)
Your blog has a new follower now...
Glad to have you aboard! Here's to furthering great content. I look forward to your future posts as well.
SteemIT is allowing us all to be efficient in posting and connecting with each other. It's great that we support each other and the rest of the world will take notice and join us. Yes, the shirt is very cool... great design and logo :)
Absolutely :)
Thanks for the compliment regarding the shirt.
Have a great day!
Nailed it!
People like yourself, @aggroed, @teamsteem, @stellabelle, @surpassinggoogle, @uwelang (and more i forget!) are solid ambassadors, who everyone needs to take a leaf from.
Now @ned has his eyes on, dare I say, bigger fish with SMTs (I did a test case yesterday) it's up to the people here more than ever to keep the peace, and produce the best work they can. As you say we are in the spotlight, potentially big business is looking in - if we want Steem to the moon, it's up to us to steer the course.
Going to have to resteem this one too now!
P.s. 'Strengthen' title spellcheck
Exactly. These people are busy with the big picture. It's on us to take care of the smaller problems :-)
Thanks for your encouragement and support, Asher! Ah and for the typo advice as well (fixed!) :-)
Have a great day!
De nada tu tambien! 😎
You are so right about being pro-active. That's what each one of us exhibited when we made the choice to join Steemit and we must remember that no one owes us anything. It's up to each of us to continue to keep the calibre of what we contribute to the platform, high, continue to evaluate outcomes and keep changing in direct response to the outcomes that we have achieved. It's an intellectual evolution.
I love your new logo. It's fantastic and suits you to a T. :)
Thanks for your lovely comment, Rebecca!
Correct. While the platform itself is updated constantly, we develop as well. It's a win-win!
I love that new logo, too - and especially being printed on a shirt. I've got 3 samples and they arrived today. So I needed to build a blog post around them :-)
You were one of the true Ambassadors of Steemit I followed when I joined. Pure motivated me to become a Steemian :)
You are awesome @syrfermarley!
Thanks my friend! 😍
And look where you are now - close to the mooooon! :-)))
Stacked them to the moon he has! 👏🏽
This! :-)
Thanks Marly!!! I love what you're doing. I think how we relate to each other within steemit, and how we relate to the greater world are going to be crucial pieces of what becomes of the network.
Also your shirt / logo is beautiful!!!
Thanks for your lovely comment @itchykitten!
I perfectly remember your epic introduction post, probably the very best that has ever been done on steemit :-) So that's what this place is about: making a difference through creativity and inspiration.
Steem on :-)
heck yeah sister!!!!
That is a fantastic shirt!!!!
You are the epitome of an ambassador!!! I'd cast my vote for @surfermarly as steemit queen.
Haha, you are too cute! 😍
As cute as my cat who jumped into the picture when doing my today's shooting, haha
That's a great shot!!!
The steemit mas-cat is saying "To the moon!!!!"
Hahaha, yeah that must be the sign! :-)
very agreed! I try to do my part, expecially regarding artists and art lovers :)
Yeah, you do! I think we all try to do our best in the respective niche. It's good to have so many people from different places with different interests all together at one place. That's pure inspiration!
Technically I don't do it on chain but I work at a Petrol Station and I am constantly link dropping to customers. Seriously like 25-30/night. I ask them if they have ever been paid fir their creativity. When they say no then BOOM! I drop the link.
I think that's excellent, @justinashby! The more noise the merrier :-)
My friends are still very sceptical. Crypto currencies scare them - because they don't understand them. A lot of education is still needed to be done. So every "link" helps.
Definitely a great article, we are all ambassadors for sure. My question, what is the difference between someone 'complaining' and someone 'standing up for what they love'?
I ask this because it seems taboo to even bring up the idea that any improvements could be made on the platform. I think the platform is a great concept but I do think the ability to self vote(especially for comments) is a detriment to the heart of steemit. I know it is a little more complicated then just taking away the button, but I think it would do wonders. I wrote a post recently about it, would love to get your feedback. Thank you.
(I have invested about 300 steem into the platform and plan to continue to invest more)
Thank you, @gank!
There is a huge difference: the mindset and the focus. You have always two options in life: either you point a finger at the things that you don't like, or you invest your time and efforts in the things that you like. The former will pace yourself, the latter will push you and bring you forward in life. Complainers are more likely to be unhappy in general.
Why are you believing that? If you only think of the last hardfork (adjustment of the rewards curve), then you will remember that these changes were required by the community. Your voice also counts a lot when it comes to select the witnesses. Have you voted for them already? If not: https://steemit.com/~witnesses
I don't think that the possibility to self vote is a problem here. Users that constantly upvote their own comments, are punished by the community anyways. We've got a lot of cops out here, haha :-)
I've just seen that you won the WSOP, that's huge! You might enjoy reading one of my articles about player poker in Vegas then :-) https://steemit.com/poker/@surfermarly/lucky-girl-trying-to-have-brain-and-balls-here-s-how-i-won-at-the-poker-table-last-night
I will jump over to your article now.
Have a great day!
PS: You said that you believe that self vote(especially for comments) is a detriment to the heart of steemit. and then you upvoted your own comment...:-) Isn't that a bit weird?
I hate the self vote button, now as a long term investor, I really think it changes the site completely(as stated in my article) BUT that does not mean I am not going to use it when it is common practice. And that is my point, too many people get focused on how they can maximize their payouts it distracts from content and the soul of the site. I was not around before the last hardfork, so I am unsure how things were. Cops and people lining their own pockets........all from being able to vote for yourself!
Ohhh I love how you made your logo into a shirt! Very awesome! Yes keep spreading that Steemit love!
Yeah, I did 3 samples and will bring them to Steemfest :-)
Keep spreading the love, too!!! 😃
omgshhh! how fun! Can you believe it in less than a month we will meet in REAL LIFE! yeeppie! :)
A bit more than 2 weeks - WOW!!! :)
My heart starts beating a bit faster, hehe
EEEEEKKK! same here!!! Were you able to attend last year? I'm so excited to meet everyone for the first time. Makes me smile so big when I think about it.
Wow, I literally had a big smile on my face while reading ! Thanks for this amazing article, you definitely gave me the perfect amount of motivation to help making this platform amazing and create great content ! Keep writing truth with your guts, we love that ;D
upvoted and resteemed.
Cheers !
Thank YOU for stopping by and supporting me :-) I'm glad I could inspire you a bit. That's what this place is about: mutual support!
Oh, I am attracted by your new shirt. I wish I can have such kind of shirt with the same Steem logo, too. Very wonderful Steem logo!
Thank you! It was designed by the amazing @sjennon :-)
Maybe there will be some of these shirts (and similar designs) for sale in the future.
I'm telling everyone close to me, and it's catching on! :)
Well done! 😃
A simple charity and outreach program name after steemit can help a lot. Even a small endorsment will count.
What do you exactly mean?
I'm thinking you can do something with this shirt since every one seems to love it. I assume you are going to Lisbon, but even if not - this shirt would sell through the steemit marketplace or whatever it may be called.
It's a hit right off the bat and someone like @stephenkendal could help you get going. Maybe you could get this done locally and help the local economy like I know you were wanting to do.
None of us will look at good as you but we can all dream!
To be exact spread awareness about steemit.com and steem blockchain is exist where anyone could be anything and given a chance to earn money. The most possible way is outreach and charity.
Like this?
fantastic post @surfermarly, i really appreciate and agree with your thoughts, no doubt instead of complaining about problems we all need to stood up and spread the positive words, as we heard about first impression is the last impression so if we continue to post in great stuff it would certainly bring good impression to new steemians and it's helped overall, we have to use our freedom for the well being of mankind, spread hates and thinks negatively not gonna help the system by any means, in order to be successful we have to put in positive content and trying to help each other out when someone are in their low moment, Stay happy and blessed, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your positive feedback! :)
Yeah, I think especially the new users should get a lot of our attention. The more they learn from us, the merrier for the whole network.
Definitely. I've started trying to curate minnows now and I go through and upvote people that aren't just going to give me money but that I want to see succeed.
Great! I upvote introduction posts, leave some nice welcome comments to make people feel comfortable right from the start. If everybody contributed a little bit every now and then, we could make a huge difference.
".....We all matter" as you mentioned in this excellent post that reminds us that we are the sculptors of Steem. Let's do our best to make it a memorable and successful place.
Haha OMG, I hope nobody got hurt while filming...! :-)
Definitely. Every single blog post counts!
Quiero esa franela jajajaja
Esa qué? Jajaja
Te refieres a la camisa? :-)))
Camisa si jajajaja Aquí en Venezuela se le puede decir franela! jajaja tú de donde eres?
Soy alemana viviendo en Canarias :-)
Good post my friend. Thank for sharing. Succes for you @surfermarly
very good post buddy.
hey,@surfermarly,

Just a little heads up, these guys look interesting: https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@bluebottlefilms/meet-two-ocean-filmmakers
Have a super too much energy day!
Naaah, not really
