The Suzuki Gixxer SF is based on the higher end GSX-R series of Suzuki and does resemble the GSX-R 1000 up to an extend. The big and muscular 12 litre tank, the side fairings, air vents on both the side are some resemblences with the GSX-R 1000. The SF is currently the cheapest fully faired motorcycle from the Japanese motorcycle giants Suzuki. Currently the motorcycle comes at an Ex-showroom price of INR 88500 that is about 1395 USD. The motorcycle also comes with optional ABS which is slightly more expensive than the standard model. It comes with a single cylinder, air- cooled 155 cc engine which produces a maximum power of 14.6 bhp @ 8000 rpm and maximum torque of 14 Nm @ 6000 rpm. The motorcycle has found many buyers because of its sporty looks, refinement and its excellent mileage ( about 45-50 kmpl ) .
This is one motorcycle that I've ridden the most, so I know most of its pros and cons. Let's start with the pros first.
PROS:
The motorcycle is incredibly smooth and refined. It has almost zero vibrations up to a higher rpm limit. Even though it may look big, it is very light and easy to maneuver even in peak traffic hours. The riding position is upright which makes it easy to tour in this motorcycle. The brakes are great and allows you to shed speed easily. It has the best in class instrument cluster which has a ton of details in it. The details given in the instrument console include a speedometer, tachometer, odometer, gear position indicator, trip meters, clock, fuel gauge, high beam indicator and an rpm shift light. It also has a red back light. It has a good ground clearance of 160 mm which allows it to ride easily through humps and bad patches of roads. It also has a seat height of 785 mm making it suitable for riders of all heights.
CONS:
The motorcycle has a few cons too. To start with, the comfort. The pillion seat is very hard and it is most likely that the pillion would prefer to sit in another motorcycle. The rider's seat is also hard, but definitely softer than that of the pillion seat. The use of some accessory like ride-on-air would solve this. Like most other motorcycles, the rear view mirrors in this are also of no use. It doesn't give a good view of what's happening behind you irrespective of how you adjust it. Even though the SF being fully faired, there is a significant amount of wind blast. The gear also feels clunky and tends to miss-shift at times. The headlight also doesn't light up the path very well.
CONCLUSION:
Overall, the Suzuki Gixxer SF is a great package for its price and is a great bike for daily city commutes as well as occasional touring. If you are planning to buy it, head to the Suzuki showroom, take a test drive and find out if the bike suits your requirements.
