It’s true I push myself to write each day because I heard somewhere or read something. It would help in more ways I wanted than struggling, so I tried. And the fact remains that despite this push I don’t succeed everyday. So what has writing down nearly every thought I’ve had each day since 2023 done for me?
For one, I have a record of my thoughts. Not unrelated to Thoreau’s thoughts on the matter, my thinking has given me a frame. I am currently wood smithing that frame. I’m a carpenter, as Musashi wrote. Maybe he did not, as scholars contend. Still, I feel as though whoever did was onto something, much like Thoreau.
Your thoughts alone aren’t much, but a record of your thoughts provide this frame. You’re a carpenter, among other things if you follow the way of the sword, as you measure, cut and guide foremen to the construction of a home. You find a use for all kinds of wood- stuff for the foyer, the support beams, the roof. Your production isn’t reality until you transform things. You take the blueprints from paper and make them structure with planning and discipline.
So too are your thoughts without organization. I realized I’ve written my thoughts for years, but I’ve never had a digital platform by which to retain and review it. Those notebooks and journals are all scattered throughout my past.
I would be interested to see if my thoughts don’t reveal certain themes. I would like to see if I can’t complete more of my schemes, too. Using tools to help you generate plans and paragraphs is fine. A dedicated few have the planning and persistence for followthrough. I want to.
And I think I should walk while jotting thoughts on the phone more often.
