I of the Tiger: On Tiger Woods and empathy

in #tiger7 years ago

Hello Steemers. My name is Junior (Jay) Campbell and I'm an England based Barbadian holistic communications specialist, trading as Intelek International, usually.

What is 'holistic communications and education'?

It's the most concise way I've found so far of saying that my communications and education praxis covers everything from body language to academic theses.

It's also my way of drawing attention to what I believe is the most important component of communication and education: honesty.

This concern with truth is behind a poem I wrote several years ago and cite as my mission statement occasionally. Here is that poem, entitled "Honestly":

I was born to be honest:
Not live between the lines and lie
Curse my savior
God
And die.

My Father knows me;
That I try
To soar
With Him.

Born to fly.

My use of the term 'holistic' is therefore not only intended to indicate the wide variety of communication medium I employ (spoken and written words, music, painting and sketching, for example).

It also points to the ethical concerns that guide me.

It points to what I call the 'continuum of character': consistency in thought, word and deed.

What does any of this have to do with Tiger Woods?

Well, the brothers been on my mind a lot lately, because of all the heat he's taking currently.

And the 'I of the Tiger' in the title of this article, is not just a play on the 1982 hit song 'Eye of the Tiger', by the band Survivor. It's a testament to something Tiger and I have in common. Tenacity.

This is something Tiger and I share with the highly distinguished American president and 'warrior king', Dwight d Eisenhower, the biblical character Moses and a host of other icons of leadership longevity.

But I'll have to tell you more about that later, as I have to hit the road now, unfortunately.

I'll leave you with this little thought teaser though: Tiger and I not only both got married in Barbados, but our interracial marriages would have been outlawed some years ago and condemned as miscegeny.

Here's a link to that corny Survivor video on Youtube. Enjoy.
