I received an email, just now, from my boss in Australia. I am working as an Order Entry in Procument Department and this is an online Virtual Assistant job. The work is in Australia and I am here in the Philippines. I have been working for 2 years, but not continually. I have an offline office job, but I feel lucky to have this part time job that I had waited for two years too. I met a group at Upwork, formerly Odesk, and they let me join them in the training. I trained for 3 months on this specific job and the rest is history.
I received this email.
I was really surprised because even though I know I am performing good based on the score card, I never thought that I will be included on the top 10 Most Improved Employee based on quality performance. When I was started, I was very irk thinking that we have score card and we need to maintain a grade while working. It really makes me uncomfortable. Boss Herms, is really keen and strict when it comes to deadline and performance. If I did something wrong, he will leave a message on my Skype and I feel bad. However, at the end of the day, after logging out, he will again leave a message saying what i did good on that day. I do not appreciate this kind of thing he was doing before until it became a habit. I never thought that those appreciations leads me to be a good employee that fits his standard and now I am on Top 5. The grade is not visible and I did not include it the print screen for confidentiality sake. I never thought they are really serious when it comes to attendance, performance and results.
Not only that, when there is a meeting and one from our group have bad performance, Boss Herms will be there to step up for us. He will do the reasoning and why things happen. He will tell us exactly where we made mistakes and would love us to learn as fast as we can because it is really needed to the job. Everything now has become a habit and instead of stressing myself, i am enjoying everything. I wonder why I am not feeling the same with my offline job?
I am not complaining, I only see the difference. Is there a mistake? What went wrong? I wonder why some Filipino Managers or Boss cannot give the same treatment in our own country? I am not generalizing, but some Managers don't. Most of the employees feel bad, especially those who are really passionate and valuing their work ethics. I am just wondering.....again, not complaining...
