I wonder whose idea it was, to give clocks A FACE.
Humanize mechanical stuff, much?
All THE TIME.
And what right did the vatican have to "civilize" time?
Compulsory anything sucks.
The compulsion I'm talking about here
is calendar-driven holidays and observations.
(I'm still gonna consciously participate in several of 'em,
because of the togetherness factor -- which is enjoyable
and deeply human -- but here I'm talking about two fake creations
that rest on top of THE REAL DEAL of "__________ Day.")
(1) The first fake creation is the fake CONSTRUCT of TIME.
A SINGLE DAY has been carved, out of 365,
for us to honor our Mothers, or be sweet to our lover,
and sing and clap for our friends, with cake.
This fake construct is the Gregorian Calendar:
I understand it helps us coordinate our shared lives,
and so, let it serve that function on a superficial level.
The only level it deserves.
But many Particular-Yet-Arbitrary-Days tell us when
to love, celebrate, feel and express gratitude.
What was supposed to be "recognition,"
has de-evolved into TRIVIALIZATION.
It implies it's not essential to
LIVE THESE THINGS EVERY SINGLE DAY.
(2) The second fake creation is the CONSTRUCT of TIMED SENTIMENT.
On November 23rd, most Americans will organize themselves
to gather together, and eat repeated foods, do repeated rituals,
while probably saying repeated stories.
And I'm not bashing that. At all!
Just the opposite, actually.
I am lamenting the fact that the MEANINGFUL things
that actually enrich us -- loving, celebrating, thanking -- are relegated
to scheduled, auto-maton days, rather than
BEING A PART OF OUR ORDINARY LIFE.
The worst part of the domestication of our minds,
is how low we have allowed the median standard of our lives
to drop. Crammed in tight somewhere between unwanted meetings,
with unliked people, to discuss unrespected ideas.
We call that a life, and make-do with a crumby arse day...
...to love your mama? to seal intimacy with your beloved?
to be alert to and gratefully aware of, the beauty that fills your life?
Do we honestly need to be prodded to do these vital things
at an appointed time, rather than LIVE THEM,
as a naturalized extension of who we are?
Bar. Way too low.
Peace-parasites lay eggs in, and take bites from,
the sanctity of our mind.
Tiny. Hungry. Patient.
They have convinced us to live according to a 30-day box,
with all kinds of pre-determined things, already filled in...
that we are to organize ourselves, and our sentiment, around!
Ironically, the moment that triggered this post,
was a cascading rush of gratitude!!
But then I thought about "Thanksgiving" -- the singular day --
and wanted to lay down my objection to compulsory observations
of vital things, that have been shrunken to 24-hour, pocket-sized editions,
largely by the $8B greeting card industry + hyper-materialsm in general.
I'm sorry to be crude, blunt and graphic.
I find my own tone in this post somewhat harsh.
It's certainly not directed at you... but at what we co-created...
and reinforce by, perhaps, not being crude, blunt or graphic enough.
Don't allow the sanctity of your mind
to be co-opted this "holiday season."
Decide now that you will retain your peace of mind.
The songs are cued up, and the commercial seduction has long begun.
But you are well able to distinguish obligatory purchases, from inspired ones.
Decipher strong joyful acts, from weak dutiful ones.
The progressively raging force,
of Halloween-Thanksgiving-Christmas-New-Year's
is too great to deny.
But without falling into commercial hypnosis,
we can, instead glean the essence from:
✨ food dishes that are, really, edible family legacies!
✨ gifts, given + received, that show we KNOW, and are KNOWN BY, someone.
✨ lights that twinkle, to remind us to do the same,
with our eyes, while we talk to each other.
No more holi-daze.
Let's make it matter. Let's make it real.

@erikaharris Thanks for being here. 💕
Holy days are there because we live under compulsory civil religion.
EXCELLENT share. Thank you for it, @heretic!
This season of the year is so tiresome. I haven’t done Xmas in years, but Thanksgiving does resonate with me to have less commercial trappings to detract from the true purpose of the gatherings...family, friends, and food. Love and thankfulness all around. We had 74 people at our house last year. It may not be as many this year, but it’s always a feast.
WOW, @stillwatersart... I don't even know 74 people! lmao
Totally love your feasty take on Thanksgiving, though. 😍
Wow i enjoyed your post..its been long i saw someone write out of the box. This is not normal thinking. I personally i don't think humans should be leaving a regimented life.
We should be free to do anything at anytime.
Thanks for sharing
@abasifreke, what box? lol :-)
Lol..box as in the normal way everyone thinks....
lmao, i know... i was just bein' silly. 😊
#notnormal
Was so scared thought i was gonna get flagged. ..
no worries... we are friendly here!
I can certainly say any "holiday spirit" ever felt within me was due to human interaction, because I have never understood them. I also started making a point to let people know that it is my birth date, not day. You only get one of those in a lifetime.
Brilliant, @claydo.
it's so nice & thanks for post.......
thanks, @mahfug716!
you most wellcome
Bravo!
Thanks, @mikeonfire :-)
