There’s something about being the first and being relevant. You become a reference point, and automatically, you become what others strive to be like or to be better than. You become the RULE, the YARDSTICK.
Here in Nigeria, we fondly refer to subsequent products from a particular industry as though they are the same as the trail blazers in that industry.
It got me thinking and made me to realize that,
· A lot depends on an individual, a product or a brand to not just to be the first, but to be the best at being first.
· It is not enough to start, but to start well enough.
If you ask me, I’d really like people to be referred to, by my brand name, irrespective of theirs.
WHY? YOU ASK
I’ll tell you.
-Because I just left a legacy
-Because I’d always be a reference point. A good example is what BITCOIN is to other ALT coins
One might say, “The best bitcoin is bitconnect”… funny right? But you get the logic.
I’ve got a few more examples for you in the Nigerian context. READY?
On y Va!!! (yeah I speak a little French)
§ The best Coca-Cola is Pepsi
§ The best Indomie is Tummy-tummy
§ The best Omo is Klin
§ The best Jik is Hypo
§ The best Close-up is Oral B
§ The best 5-alive is Chivita
§ The best Pampers is Huggies
§ The best Maggi is Knorr
§ The best Dettol is Savlon
§ The best Gala is Bigi
And the list goes on and on.
The point is this; even when people try to enhance their products to beat yours, you still find relevance and expression in their achievements.
Just a little advice, you are a limited edition, your only brand that ever existed, and the first of your kind. They say, “The strength of a thing is in its universal appeal”. Brand yourself to get global recognition, to be best at being you and because people are looking up to you.
your whole concept of first start and being relevant is educating. but the best maggi is knorr?? to me, the best maggi!!!
