I've been on a mission to find out who owns what and who are the bigger powers of steemit and found some interesting information on a website called 
"Decentralize Today " in which bloggers claiming proof of When STEEM first launched on 24th of March 2016 a amount of foul play went on between the developer of STEEM and miners in which the developer cheated the miners to an unfair advantage and relaunching to defuse miners from being more dominant within their approach .
It goes on to speak in percentages of how many accounts developer/s and their friends have of steem units and explains why they think steemit is more centralized then decentralized.
