Now we have smartphones and smartwatches and smartcards and bitcoin hardware wallets and brainwallets and all kinds of gadgets that can interface with buyers and sellers for us, online and in person, and do so redundantly. The tech is still rough on a few but there's more promise, especially in Bitcoin and other token based currency.
When governments are in trouble, and need more money...solution is... lets print some more :D Easy!

The use of paper money and coin has already started. Checks, money orders, cashier's checks were the first. Then credit cards were introduced decades ago. Then along came the debit card. Oh, and let's not forget Paypal and the Google wallet. We're also able to swipe our smartphones at certain retailers using payments scans.
I actually can almost envision physical dollar bills and currency will be a distant memory within the next generation.
