He is popular, that cannot be denied.
Just because he is popular does not make the hatred he stirs up justifiable.
Poorer people feel the struggle, when a charismatic speaker taps into their fear of the "other" and places the blame for their problems on the "other"...well that never ends well, or solves anything.
He is part of the problem, not the solution
