From Discount to Delight: Unpacking a Treasure Trove of Toys and Comics

Owning a comic & toy shop isn't going to get ya filthy rich…trust me as I speak from experience as I’m still a poor. It does however come with it’s own set of unique perks. I get to surround myself with this nerdy but uber cool stuff all day long which helps me feel young at heart. That’s a biggie in this life. But one of the groovier aspects of having a shop, especially one that’s as well established as we are (going on 17 years now), is the fact that we are a destination for people looking to move on from their collections. This means I do not have to leave my shop at all as the fine folks hoping to move on from their treasures, simply come to me.

That’s exactly what happened this week when a gentleman came in with several bins full of action figures galore. Consisting mainly of toys that were blown out at discount stores the past few years, it was still a fairly hefty lot. You can check the write up below for a little more information as to this pile of nerdy nonsense.

That leave us the rest of this piece today to go through the lot with a fine tooth comb and see what’s what! Ready to get going?!? Well I’m starting with or without ya…

  • NECA Aliens, Predator, & The Thing figures

These badboys retail from $36–$46 bucks a pop with the Riley in jumpsuit being the biggie of the batch as she commands around $85.

  • Hasbro Transformers figures

These sons a bitches each move for about $30-$40 a piece. Before I even had a chance to go through the lot fully, one of my regulars claimed the Wreck-Gar for $40. Tasty!!!

IMG_1138.jpeg

  • Hasbro Marvel Legends figures

Nothing super special here as these are all fairly common pieces, but eventually they will sell for our Legends base retail price of $26.

IMG_1140.jpeg

  • Hasbro Marvel Legends Deluxe figures

These were nice as I will sell bulky Hulk figures forever. Same thing with that Thor/Destroyer 2 pack. Those are basically evergreen for me meaning that people will always snap these up.

IMG_1141.jpeg

IMG_1142.jpeg

  • Hasbro GI Joe figures

This line isn’t terribly popular at the moment but the tides can turn at any moment in the toy & collectibles game. Retail is around the $20 range per piece.

IMG_1143.jpeg

  • Hasbro Marvel Legends Retro figures

Same deal as the Legends above in that there’s nothing magical happening here as these are fairly common pieces & their retail will be around $26.

IMG_1144.jpeg

  • Hasbro Power Rangers/Ninja Turtles 2pks

These wacky 2 packs will eventually move around $50 bucks a pop.

IMG_1145.jpeg

  • Gentle Giant Animated Stormtrooper Maquette

This limited edition statue sells for around $100 bucks.

IMG_1155.jpeg

  • Mattel Jurassic Park Dinosaur figures

These are awesome. It’s simple…people love giant dinosaur toys. The T-Rex sells for around what I paid for the entire lot at around $135, while the others sell around the $60-$75 mark each. Weirdly, these were the figgies I was most excited to add from this collection.

IMG_1148.jpeg

  • Hasbro Fortnite toys

These glider only fetches a few bucks while the boat sells for around $40 beans. Not terribly expensive but Fortnite sells like hotcakes in my shop. These will fly!

IMG_1151.jpeg

  • Misc. pieces

The rest of the figures here are little drips & drabs that’ll round out the lot. Most of year will sell fur between $8-$20 a pop with the exception of the Flash Gordon, Phantom, & GI Joe pieces at around $40 each on those.

  • 2 Long Boxes of Comics

I already went through these and separated immediately. I pulled about 15 different comic sets out that will eventually make its way into our Sets boxes. The rest was probably a half and half mix of books we will blend into our back stock, while the rest already went into our bargain bins.
IMG_1163.jpeg

  • Star Wars Grogu

This loose doll of the most popular Star Wars character created in recent memory was just too cute not to share. I don’t think it’s very expensive but we will sell it immediately. Probably around $15-$20 bucks.

IMG_1167.jpeg

  • McFarlane DC Multiverse Batcycle

While I have a few of these in the back room puking up, one day I’ll run out and this will make its way to the sales floor at around $40 bucks.

IMG_1160.jpeg

  • 2 Bins of Loose Figures

These bins are an assortment of miscellaneous action figures from different lines. These will fit perfectly in our 3 “Loose Figures Bins” that customers love to dig through. Believe it or not, loosies can still fetch a decent chunk of change. A quick search of a few of these revealed prices in the $30 plus range on some. I’ll end up paying for this entire collection through these loose figures alone over time.

  • Masters of the Universe Eternia Minis

Blind bag/box items of popular lines perform well for several reasons, the main being…people like to gamble as they try to pull the “rare” ones. Plus, these little collectibles come in their own little snazzy castle case. Badass! These will move at $8 bucks a pop no problem.

IMG_1152.jpeg

That’s the lot! While we already had a bunch of this stuff already, we will eventually cycle through most of these over time. So this lot is a welcome addition to the shops ever growing inventory. Both in front and back of store.

As always, I appreciate you spending a few minutes of your valuable & precious time here with me. See ya next collection!!

ETERNIA! Most of the generation today have no idea about He-Man. All they know is meme by Skeletor.

Seriously! It’s kinda sad to think of all the properties thatbthe youngins today simply have no interest in or are unaware of.

I think of the great Hannah Barbera, Looney Tunes stuff that kids of today will probably never see. Wacky Races?!? That shit was awesome! Lol 😞

I teach my kids about the learnings of the past so they know about the history. As a parent we should do that.

I try to with my kids as well but they definitely have a preconceived notion about things that came before them. Like for movies, they just say “it looks old” and have no interest. I’ve failed. Lol

I'm sure some will say you ripped off this poor guy, but he wanted money now, and you have the customer base and storage space to profit later. Time preference is real, and he chose his side of the equation while you were ready to make the trade. Win-win!
