Ephesus
It is a great site in Selcuk town, Turkey. The town is about one and a half hours drive to a big city, İzmir and is half an hours drive away from a well known resort place Kusadasi.
Ephesus is one of the best ancient Greek & Roman cities. The most significant thing about the place is the well preserved structures/ buildings in the city. For me the most significant thing is that you can see an almost complete city. In most other ancient sites you can only see fountains or temples or just the theatre etc. But here you can see all in one place. The city even has a great library building as well as temples, fountains, agoras, ancient villas, parlamento building etc. So when you visit the city you see a complete ancient city.
Some notes would be:
The complete tour would be like a mile’s walk.
The city has two entrance/exit gates which are upper and lower gates. Starting the tour from upper gate is a good idea because in this case you walk downhill. But if you don’t have a vehicle to pick you up in the lower gate ( in other words if you park your car in the upper gate ) then you walk back and this time it is uphill.
If you start from the upper gate you better not spend much time in early stages because it gets better and better as you walk in the ciry. Two of the greatest features of Ephesus, the library and the grand theatre are at the end. So try to save some energy and battery for your mobile phones for these two.
If you have sort of limited time then you can start from the lower gate and see the theatre and library and you can exit from the lower gate again. So this way even if you don’t see Ephesus in full you see two of the best structures of the city.
August may be too warm, usually it is around 28 degrees celcius and can easily be above 30 degrees celcius ( usually around 90 fahrenheit ).
Ephesus definetely worths to see.
