We flew into Phoenix, AZ and drove 3.5hrs to the Hualapi trailhead. Then, we hiked 11 miles into the Grand Canyon, through Supai village, to the Havasupai campground. The next day, we hiked an additional 3.5 miles out to Beaver Falls. Spent a couple hours slashing around in the gorgeous water with almost nobody around!
If you visit the area, make the effort to see Beaver Falls!
My wife was concerned for the well-being of the mules and horses. We carried all of our own gear in and out, even though it was very tempting to pay for a mule to carry it out (30 miles of intense trails over 3 days was a lot).
We also looked around while in the village, and their general condition seemed to be good. They had room to roam, and their loads didn’t look too heavy on the trail. I didn’t see any in the condition from the picture, and we were looking for it.
