Have you ever had a strong desire to travel? Not only because you wanted to try different types of food or meet new people. Actually, the main reason was that you wanted to experience the feeling of being away.
I didn't know there was a word that could explain that feeling until I friend said to me "I think you are suffering from Fernweh".
Fernweh is a noun that has its roots in Germany. "Fern" means far away and "weh", pain. But the definition is totally different from what you might assume at first.
Instead of a simple urge to travel, Fernweh is the sadness caused by staying at home or in the homeland, is the sadness of not being away, the desire to know new places, something that grows in our soul, a need.
To me, it feels like my spirit is crying for leaving.
