A QUICK TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE AND THE M23

Sitting outside a beach cafe in Hove with my hot cup of black coffee

This week, two years ago, I got bored at home and decided to take a spontaneous trip to the coast because I was missing the sea. I had two options; Brighton or Bournemouth. I set up a poll on Twitter and asked the question. Brighton won.

It made sense to go to Brighton anyway, even though Bournemouth is marginally more beautiful. It was almost an hour shorter drive, and the route was much more direct.

I made a whole day of it actually. I decided to park in Hove, a town next door to Brighton and walk to Brighton along the promenade. I had a couple of cameras with me for film and digital photography and even managed to shoot a vlog ;)

Like today, the weather was pleasant - a little cold, but comfortable with good light. As it happens, I was missing the sea today too. I saw a post on Twitter where someone asked about 'day trips' in England. I don't see any reason why not to do it, but I didn't have the energy and spirit of spontaneity I had in 2019.

Really brighton over Bournemouth there is really no contest, both are nice, but I liked the beach better at Bournemouth.

How about blackpool for your next trip, a bit Further but worth it.

I've never been to Blackpool. It's a historical place so I'll surely visit one day.

I've been to Brighton, too. It was in July 2006. London was unbearably hot, 34 C. You don't want to be in a big city when it's hot like that. My wife and I took the train from London to Brighton and spent a day by the sea. I had fish and chips, too. It was 27 C in Brighton. The ocean temperature was 14 C. A little too cold for swimming, which is why I didn't go.

Incidentally, ocean temperatures being like that even during heatwaves is the reason why England is, on average, has cooler temperatures than Finland in July.

Oh interesting. Yeah the water is always cold here on the North Atlantic, even during heat waves.

I was in London in 2006 and remember the heat waves we had sometimes before the financial/property crash of 2007 :)

Nice shots!
Interesting info about the temperature of the sea, both in your article and in the comments.
I've not been to Brighton, only made it to Bournemouth, however, being from the Caribbean, I don't foresee me ever going into the sea in the UK, not this lifetime 😫😵

HAAHAHAHAHAHAA
Yeah for sure. I don't think Caribbeans will be impressed by any beach anywhere to be honest. Maybe with the exception of the amazing beaches on the East African coast and islands in that ocean like Zanzibar, Maldives and the Seychelles.

Exactly! The beaches in Zanzibar look AMAZING! My husband lived and worked in a private island their for a while, but I never got to visit :(
Hopefully one day :)

It's a truly special part of the world. I've been planning to move there after a year in lockdown haha.

Haha! One thing I've learnt from the pandemic is to take more risks and go for what you want.
Life is too unpredictable. If that dream ever materialises,I wish you the very best.

Brighton's always been on my list of places to visit, I live by the beach (an actual sandy beach haha) so the seaside doesn't attract me as much but the place in general has always been on my list.

Hopefully post covid i'll make the journey! haha

I've been around your parts and year, it's much nicer there with all that sand haha.... but Brighton is our San Francisco/Ibiza with the party element :)

Yeah beachs are amazing here but the party life definitely isnt haha

I've been to Bournemouth on a stag weekend and that was a good night life but Brighton is definitely high on the list!

Oh my it's been ages since I last enjoyed a coffee outdoors to be honest

There's nothing like coffee on the beach/seaside. I really should be living by the sea with an ocean view balcony lol.
