ADSactly Travel: Roads and Trips Across Northern Europe - Part 1

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

A couple of days ago I decided to tell my boss that I'm finishing all my tasks, cleaning my desk and packing my suitcase, but not forever, only for a week so I could use the rest of my vacation days.
It would've been a waste if they were left unused, would it not?

Easy going atmosphere at work with not a lot of requests and demands permitted me to google the long term weather forecast for the northern part of Europe we had been planning to visit, specifically Luxembourg, Germany and The Netherlands.

The forecast said it should be warm and sunny with a few showers. The information was vital because we had hundreds of kilometers we had to cross.

I started the trip from Croatia with my friend Mark. We were accommodated by his friend Ana that has been living and working in Luxembourg for a few years.

We hadn't planned which cities we were going to visit. It was a decision we made in the mornings when we woke up or while we were driving and suddenly wanted to get of the highway or change the destination on the GPS.

We had a car, good roads and some money to spent. What more could you want?

PROBLEMS BEFORE DEPARTURE

A day before the departure, more precisely only few a hours before I had to turn of my computer at work and go home to pack, my boss had walked in holding in his hand a tender.

With his deep and hoarse voice he made an announcement that there was a new job competition. And the deadline for application was the following day at 9 a.m.

My thoughts of vacation, travel and weather forecast were abruptly interrupted by a piece of paper with black ink which passed from hand to hand until it finally landed on my desk.

I took the assignment, for I know there was no point in arguing and wastefully losing energy.
I started collecting the necessary papers and writing the bill of quantities.I was finished around 11 p.m. and began packing at midnight.

The most important thing was to take the passport, phone, money, chargers, and camera, because as the new generations like to say: pics or it didn't happen.

I had put my stuff in a suitcase quickly, closed the zip and then noticed that a padlock was missing in order for me to lock everything down.

Someone who was the last one to use the suitcase didn't report the loss.
At that point, I was so tired to be thinking about when, where and by whom was it last used.
All I knew was that I had to buy a new one somewhere along the way, nothing else was important anymore.

BUS, COOKIE AND LJUBLJANA

The departure was from the Zagreb bus station at 11. Mark and I had met a few minutes before, checked in our luggage and entered the bus. To our surprise, it was a double-decker and we immediately climbed up.

The overall stress from the tender that was piling up the night before was gone with the sound of the bus engine starting.

We were off to Ljubljana where we had to board a plane to Charleroi, Belgium airport and upon arrival catch a bus for the City of Luxembourg.

It took us a little over two hours to get to Ljubljana, with one pit-stop, after we had crossed the border. We stretched our legs, took a walk and entered the restaurant to see what kind of food was offered.
The choice was large, on the menu, there were all sorts of soups, meats, fish, side dishes and desserts.

After about 15 minutes of break, we continued. Mark and I had with us sandwiches and homemade cakes that Marks' mum had surprised us before the trip.
We had enough water and, of course, a full flask of coffee.
That way we've saved few euros and we weren't hungry.

As we arrived in Ljubljana we still had two more hours to kill before the local bus that takes us to the airport. I've had remembered to buy the padlock for the suitcase.

After successful shopping, we wondered through the center of the town by the river Ljubljanica.
The town was full of tourists that were sightseeing with their guides, taking pictures.
We had a beer in one of the bars and headed to the airport.

That's how our adventure had started.

I'm curious to know, whether you carry your own food, water and a flask of coffee when you go on a long trip and do you buy a new toothbrush on vacations because you forgot to take yours?

Excellent log of your trip, @lufcija. Beautiful landscapes that you capture in your photographs. Travelling is one of the pleasures of life, it allows us to enjoy, know and learn from the places you visit. Before I used to travel a lot in my country, but for a while this is not possible. I also prepared sandwiches to eat on the way, I carried water and of course the coffee thermos could not be missing. It seems that it is common to leave the toothbrush when traveling and prepare the suitcase at the last minute and not only the brush but other things such as underwear. I hope you continue to enjoy your vacation adventure, @lufcija and that you can share it thanks to @adsactly.

The most important thing to remember is to take necessary documents with you and every other piece of clothing can be bought on the spot :) .
Thank you for reading it.

Jajaja! Correcto! Los documentos van primero. Me ha tocado comprar muchas cosas durante los viajes. A hug :)

...y un abrazo para ti :)

I have a travel kit, that includes a separate toothbrush. I do not pack food or water, I buy what I need as I go.

It's a beautifully photographed travel chronicle. The story of the small vicissitudes that are part of the common experience, as well as the details that build the flavor (those cookies will stay in my memories too!) and the color of the trip are made with grace. I particularly liked the light and the color collected by the eye of his camera, because they recreate the landscape and transmit a thermal sensation that make the experience very vivid.
I really liked your post, @lufcija.
Thanks to you and @adsactly for sharing it.
I look forward to the next part.

Thank you for your compliment Adriana, I am glad you like ti :)

Pleasant trip.
I can share in how you feel you must immediately complete the task of the boss because you don't want to waste time debating. I agree with doing rather than talking. After all, the heart will feel relieved. the hope of going on a picnic is real.
I live in the tropics very impressed with the scene you are describing. Photos that are so beautiful have revealed things. And at the same time you explain everything in detail. Your personal trait that I capture is that you work with care and attention, focus. very focused.
You prepare everything well, even you provide coffee for saving money. It a good thing. Some time we don't give attention well. We think that we can buy everything. But you did well, good preparation to make your journey excited.
This is a valuable lesson from the post you made. I look forward to the next post and story.

Thank you rokhani for reading it.

It's good to read your travel chronicles again, @ @lufcija. I like your style of narrating your travels! It's very enjoyable. It's good that you can take a few days off. I love those unforeseen trips, without many plans, in which you are willing to enjoy and relax. I'm one of those people who always forget something at home, no matter how smart I am and no matter how much time I have. Once, I was with some friends celebrating a birthday and we decided at the party to go out to a beach house and spend a weekend. At that time I had to buy a toothbrush and a bathing suit.
I will wait for the continuation. Surely great adventures and many good things await you. Greetings.

Thanks a lot Nancy :)

Very nice and accurate your story about the decision of the trip and what of this present us so far@lufcija. Those destinations are very attractive. I wish we could do it! But through your commented route I am sure that we will be approaching in vicarious experience to know them and enjoy them. The times we travel we also try to bring food and drink provisions to make the trip less expensive. Thank you for giving us the possibility of that trip through your text, @lufcija.

Hi @lufcija: Thanks for sharing your trip. The photos are very nice and as they say the new generations "pics or it didn't happen.".
While I was reading you I thought just about the coffee jar. He told me why he mentions this. And now I understand, it was for a question at the end. In Venezuela, South America, everything is very expensive. For a long trip you have to foresee the food and try to carry all the things for personal use. Buying on the road is a luxury. For coffee, in my case I can travel with a pack of 1/4 kilo and ask you to prepare me as a little gift to the innkeepers. Hahahaha sharing new friends are known. Greetings @lufcija, I hope to read your complete adventure.
