Not to be mistaken for African Mauritania, the Republic of Mauritius is a small island a little under a 1.5 million inhabitants in the Indian Ocean. It is an incredibly beautiful location that sadly most of us have never heard of. However there is a steady stream of tourists heading over there, many of them to see the incredible Seven Colored Earths.
The Seven Colored Earths are actually a cluster of sand dunes that have some otherworldly qualities. One for example is the fact that no matter how much time passes and how much it has been observed, it never seems to erode.
It's name of course is derived from the seven colors found in the sand (red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow), and the awesome thing is that as the sands shift the colors settle in different ways sometimes causing the colors to pop out a bit more or sometimes less, but always in visible multiple layers.
This is the same inexplicable event that happens when you take multiple colors of sand and put them in a jar together, they will settle in different layers according to their colors. For you homeschool parents out there, it's a fun science experiment!
That said, if you are looking for a different kind of vacation spot that nobody you know can say they've been to, the Seven Colored Earths would be a pretty awesome place to visit!

Wow that's gorgeous !!!!
There are so many little places like that around the world. I love finding out about them and learning. It's just fascinating!
Cool, have you been there? That place looks really neat! Good idea to make a replica in a jar.
