"You've never been to Krakow? Do you know it is considered the Florence of East?"
I heard this too many times from friends and people I get to know in time! Actually, it was even a matter of pride because I spent many years in Florence so every time the answer was something like "No, never been yet, but I have to go in one of my next trips". Let's see if they are right, if truly can be compared to the most beautiful city in the world. I'm taking this as a challenge-
Different circumstances gave me the opportunity to fly to Poland and spend there few days. So Andru, what do you have to do there? Of course, visiting Krakow even if for just one day!
Here I am. Krakow and a strange language. I know just a few words in polish but surely not even enough to order a cold beer. But I have my girlfriend and she is my voice in this slavic land. She never liked this city (too many tourists, and people in general- yet not even close to what you can find in Florence). What about me? I'm in love already with these places, the atmosphere is so great and the medieval and modern heritage can be seen everywhere. Rynek Główny, the main square and touristic point is just a great experience and full of life ( do not forget to wait for the Trumpet Call from the St.Mary's Basilica).
We are hungry and she is willing to show me one of the best know street food here in Krakow so we hurry to reach Kazimierz District, the center of the Jewish community in the city which actually is one of the best parts of the whole city! Just great.
It's Zapiekanka time and it's a pleasure to eat it because it tastes so damn good. What I'm talking about? Well, look at this picture and tell me it's not worthing a bite. (I actually wanted the second round but come on, summer is coming)
Guys, really! You have to try it if you go there. And take a huge ice-cream just behind the corner of the square to complete the meal :D Thank me later
There is just one thing that I want to see in this short daytrip : Wawel Castel. Come on, I'm studying History, no way I can miss it. OR MAYBE YES because entrance tickets are already gone. Sold out for today due to an art show or something like this. All you can do is walking around and see it from the outside. Thank. You. So. Much.
After the first minutes of disappointment and some time spent there (and of course, a cold beer ), it's time to leave this city with a promise to return. No way to visit it as it should be done, in just few hours.
Let's just say I tasted the ground for a next (and longer) visit. What about the pride question? Don't worry Florence, you are still the most beautiful city in my eyes.
Haven't been to Florence and haven't been to Krakow, but seeing the pictures and your promo story I'm adding it to my list :)
You definitely should visit both of them! Heard that you're quitting your job to travel so yeah, add them to your list :) Wish you the best
Thanks! After travelling to asia, canada and Iceland we are hoping that we also have the chance to do a roadtrip through europe, but time will tell :)
Have a nice day and remember.. GoCoconuts 😉
What a shame about the castle! hopefully you will get the chance to visit some another time. The highlight of Krakow was the cathedral and the people playing trumpet out of the windows
Yeah, we were a bit disappointed but there will be for sure a second visit and I will buy entrance online this time :D
The same thing happened to me when I went to San Fransisco and couldn't get a ticket for Alcatraz, it's easily done!
