The first historical mention of the village was made in 1420, when the Italian traveler Christopher Bouletelmonti mentions it in his book "Liber insularum archipelagi". The name Apiranthos is considered to be the newest name of the village. The name was given a few years before the Revolution of 1821.
Others came from the Perinthos of Constantinople, from which proven settlers from the village who came here to escape the persecution of the Turks. Because his name is always spoken in folk texts in a general decline, "Aperathou", it is said that the owner of the area was someone Peregrós or was a Franks in origin and who had this region as a feud during the Middle Ages and had the name Aperanthos.
