The Golden Temple, located in the city of Amritsar in the state of Punjab,is a place of great beauty and sublime peacefulness. The temple basically represents Sikh community/ religion in India.
The temple is built around a man-made pool (sarovar). The temple is covered with 7-9 layers of gold plating which weighs approx 750 kg. The cost of maintenance is reportedly managed entirely through donations. The tasks of cleaning and maintaining the temple, along with cooking and serving of langar (free meal), is done by volunteers who work free of cost. No wonder Harmandir Sahib aka the Golden Temple receives more than three million visitors every month and looks as glorious at night as it does during the day because it doesn't matter your race, faith or culture. Everyone is welcome.. The temple is famous for its spirituality and beauty.
Now I would like to share my experience of visiting this holy place. As we walked inside the vicinity of the temple we came across a huge open spree market selling famous stuff from Amritsar or basically whole of Punjab. You cross Jalianwala bagh ( can be check on google) then enter the temple. Once we enter we donned our headscarves and checked our shoes we knew that we were about to enter something special. Men and Women must cover their heads out of respect before entering the Golden Temple. An like so many other Holy places shoes are not allowed. But this temple has a little twist to walking barefoot. Before entering you walk through a foot bath to ensure your feet are clean. And then the Golden Temple hit us with its incredibly impressive and beauty. The complex surrounding the temple adds to its beauty. A marble walkway surrounds the temple with milky white buildings protecting it on all four sides. The temple shines in the eyes and is in the middle of the lake( sarovar ).
The Sarovar water is also considered holy, people take the little water in their hand and touch their lips to it and sprinkle the rest on themselves. The Temple is in the night is so peaceful , it some different energy all together that you don't feel like leaving the place.
I would definitely visit again as the flight to Amritsar from my city is just 1hr Lol.
