How to plan a 5 day trip to Sikkim

Nestled amidst the lower Himalayas, Sikkim is a popular tourist destination and hill station in India. Hundreds of tourists come to the state to enjoy the scenic beauty and idyllic atmosphere. There is a wide range of hotels in Sikkim which offer excellent facilities and services. If you are planning to stay and travel at this lovely state for five days, this is how you should plan your itinerary.

Being a hill station, Sikkim experiences a temperate climate all through the year. The summer months are pleasant and mild while the winter months are chilly. The state experiences moderate rainfall. The ideal time for traveling to Sikkim is in between the months of March and October when the weather is pleasant. Nature lovers can also make trips during the winter season to spend time amidst snow. Sikkim is well connected via different modes of transportation. Day 1:  Arrive at Gangtok. The capital of the state of Sikkim, Gangtok is a beautiful hill station located amidst the Shivalik Hills of the eastern range of the Himalayas. It is situated at an altitude of 1,437 meters and is a popular center for tourism and commerce.

Being a popular tourist destination, there are plenty of tourist attractions in Gangtok. The city is a well-known center of the Buddhist religion and is home to lots of Buddhist monasteries. The scenic beauty is also an added charm. Some of the popular tourist spots in the city are:

  • Rumtek Monastery
  • Enchey Monastery
  • Do-drul Chorten
  • Dodrupchen Monastery

Day 2: Make trips to the beautiful Changu Lake and the Nathula Pass. It is the last Indian outpost before China located at an altitude of 14,140 feet. En route, also visit Baba Mandir and enjoy a ride on the yak.

Day 3: After breakfast, drive from Gangtok to the lovely town of Pelling in Sikkim. After arriving in Pelling, stay at the hotel. Make trips to the well-known Pemayangtse Monastery and witness the rich Buddhist tradition and heritage. You can also see a huge collection of ancient manuscripts and antiques. Spend the night in the hotel.

Day 4: Embark on sightseeing tours in Pelling for the day. Shop for beautiful handicrafts, local artifacts and handlooms from the markets at moderate rates. Make trips to the popular places like Changey Waterfalls, Khangchendzonga waterfalls, Rabdentse Ruins, Sangachoeling Monastery and the Singshore Bridge.

Day 5: From Pelling, drive through the lovely mountains and greenery to Ravangla. After arrival in this idyllic town, check into the hotel and make sightseeing tours of this beautiful hill town later in the afternoon. Opt for overnight stay here.

Day 6: From Ravangla, proceed to Bagdogra Airport and board the flight.
