FIRST TIME TO TRAVEL AT THE AGE OF 23 - SEE THE WONDERS OF CEBU (PART 1)

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Never too late for a first timer right?

Hello again dear Steemians! Here I am reminiscing about the first time I traveled across another island in our country and I want to share you my experiences.

About November of last year, me and my family (including my mom’s best friend whom we treat as a part of the family) had a vacation in one of the most marvelous places here in Philippines, the city of Cebu! We spent one week there and had the pleasure of visiting some of the city’s great historical sites and see the astonishing wonders of their beaches.

I still can’t forget the feeling of excitement and nervousness I had when I first rode an airplane.

(my view while on top of the clouds. yey!)

Of course we wouldn’t miss the chance to taste the distinctive lechon of Cebu, so on the night we arrived there, we had our dinner in Zubuchon – one of the best restaurants there. By the way, to those who doesn’t know what lechon is, it is a popular pork dish here in the Philippines wherein a whole roasted pig is cooked over charcoal, resulting to very crispy skin and soft meat.

Here's what it looks like. (highly recommended! It is so delicious! But make sure that you are not hypertensive)

The next day (our first day of tour), we went to the place where Magellan’s Cross is planted.

Magellan’s cross signifies the event about the propagation of Roman Catholic faith in the Philippines. They say that the original cross is encased with another wooden cross for its protection from unwanted chipping by the people.

(me and my siblings)

The cross is housed in a small chapel located next to Basilica Minore del Santo Nino – the oldest Catholic Church in the country.

Then after that, we headed to Lantaw to have our lunch.

Lantaw is a floating native restaurant located in Cordova, Cebu. While eating the scrumptious foods they serve, there you can also enjoy the spectacular view of the hills and the city in the distance. What a great place to dine and chill! The place is indeed peaceful and the natural breeze of fresh air will surely keep you cool and relaxed.

Here's our family picture while having lunch and the view:

Wonderful right? :)

After recharging ourselves, our next stop was in Temple of Leah.

This temple was built in honor of a mother’s legacy, and a symbol of undying love and devotion of Teodorico Soriano Adarna to his wife Leah Villa Albino-Adarna. Aside from that, the architectural structure of the temple is exquisitely beautiful, thus, serves as a testament of Filipino’s creativity and compassion.

(there we are again, me and my siblings) :)

Afterwards, we visited the Sto. Nino de Cebu-Mactan parish,

then right after, we headed to Lapu-lapu city – the place where the Battle of Mactan exactly happened. The Battle of Mactan was a historical event that took place 6 centuries ago. It happened because of Filipino’s resistance against foreign forces who wanted to invade and conquer the Philippines. That place is also where Lapu-lapu, the first Filipino hero, defeated Ferdinand Magellan who led the warriors when they invaded the country. As a commemoration of the battle, Filipinos built in this place the statue of Datu Lapu-lapu.

So this sums up our first day of tour in the city of Cebu, Philippines. Wonderful place indeed! Do you agree? :)
