Memorial of Glory (Military Memorial Cemetery) in Kostroma

At the end of the Prospectus of the City of Kostroma in the territory of the old cemetery is a memorial dedicated to soldiers who died in military hospitals in Kostroma.

To the left, in front of the entrance to the alley, on a rectangular stela, is the invoice order of the Great Patriotic War and dates - 1941-1945. In the depth of the ground, paved with large square plates, against the background of white marble pylons, from the high pedestal there are figures of the Motherland laying a wreath, and the warrior, frozen in a minute of silence. On the sides of the inscriptions on the inscriptions: "Nobody is forgotten" and "Nothing is forgotten". At the foot of the monument on a dark gray granite slab there is a bronze star with the perpetual fire of Eternal Glory to the fallen heroes. On the right on the parapet, the cartridges were sealed with earth, transferred here from the battlefields of Moscow, Smolensk. Stalingrad, Kalinin and Leningrad directions, where more than 3 thousand fighters from Kostroma were killed.

Along the alley to the right and left of the site are ten large granite slabs, placed on low podiums. They are carved in gold letters the names of 886 soldiers and officers buried here.

All the works on the standard project were carried out by the Leningrad Experimental Sculptural and Industrial Combine. On the territory of the cemetery there are graves-figures of the revolutionary movement: A.A. Simanovsky (1862-1926), chairman of the gubprofsaveta, G.A. Simanovsky (1862-1918), commissar of the first military-revolutionary detachment and the first Soviet regiment, who died in Yaroslavl during the suppression of the White Guard mutiny, DI Dolmatov (1893-1920), chairman of the Kostroma Provincial Executive Committee, D.N. Podlipaeva (1871-1920), head of the gubprodotdel.

In the post-war years, the Hero of the Soviet Union Guard Gen. A.V. Skvortsov (1901-1946) and the general-major of technical troops, I.P. Salnikov (1893-1944).

In 1995, during the celebration of the Victory over Nazi Germany, a chapel was erected on the territory of the Memorial in honor of the warrior, the holy Great Martyr, patron of Kostroma Theodore Stratiyat.

Every year on Victory Day, Kostroma residents pay homage to the deepest respect for the memory of the heroes. Here, from the monument of Glory in Peace Square, a column of veterans of the Great Patriotic War with flowers and wreaths goes to the military cemetery in order to pay tribute to all those who defended the freedom and independence of the Motherland with their breasts.
