The Power of Oreti Beach!

in #travel7 years ago

When you get to see the beach, you straight away realize why Burt Munro chose it to test out his Indian motorbike there. It’s very flatness and vastness!

To get more info on Burt Munro and his amazing motorbike, check my previous blog: https://steemit.com/travel/@artguru/burt-munro-and-his-amazing-motorbike

The vastness of Oreti Beach:

When you first walk onto the beach, you become conscious of its dramatic atmospheric, especially out to sea and in the distance.

Check out the map where Oreti beach is in relation to the Town of Invercargill. The beach is on the left side of the map. And the town is at the bottom end of New Zealand’s south island.

The very vastness of the beach and its flat wide open infinitude space is so breathe taking.

Sorry, it was so vast I had to stitch single photos together (from south to north) to give you some idea of the beach's vastness.

The beach where Burt Munro practiced:

Standing there and having seen the film on Burt Munro and his amazing motorbike (http://hd.watchsite.win/play.php?movie=0t4t1t2080) straight away you think of him and want to visualize him on his motorbike and racing across the sands.

So naturally when you are there, you look up and down the beach, turning your head swiftly, as if you are following him zooooming right past you and into infinity. And into eternity because of his speed record still stands today!

Then you become aware of the zig-zag patterns in the sand. And you wonder if the sand was like that when he did his practicing. Did it affect his speed then? Surely smoother sand would be better to ride over with his bike!

The zig-zag pattern has its own power:

The strong pattern’s perspective draws you in. Like it is pulling you into the scene, with such speed into its infinite distance, making you feel body-less and insufficient in the beach’s vast expanse.

In fact when someone walks away from your group, they quickly seem to be swallowed up by that vast perspective dimension. Not only in the distance of space, but in the dimension of size.

Notice how small the car is in the distance compared with a person also standing on the beach.

Then the atmospheric conditions:

By the time we got to the beach it was late afternoon. And the weather was threatening the scene.

As an artist, I was taken in by the subtle blends of colour and tones. I would love to paint a panoramic view of the scene, but the very simplicity of its subtle beauty, I think only God could create.

It didn’t stop me from soaking in its profound beauty. To be standing there and breathing it in, and trying so hard to fix it in my memory, it seemed like I had been translated into the time warp and dimension of God’s infinite power of creation.

Then taking note of the sea

New Zealand been close to the South Pole, the sea doesn’t have huge tall waves like you would find in South Africa or Hawaii. So their very flatness lends to the vastness of the whole scene.

Normally taking photos of vast simple scenes are hard to capture as exciting compositions. But because of the brewing weather, distant rain and the subtle warm colours forming at the end of the day, I tried to get something of the presented drama on what was transiently occurring before us.

Lingering there:

It seems none of us were in the mood to leave the beach. It had captured our souls in its power forever and a day. But it came time, we had to leave and go back to our lodgings!

Sort:

This is such a soul inspiring journey..What better could you ask from nature, with such blessings..Sea seems to be in complete peace, Im sure the people watching it must have been in peace with this view

Hi. Yes, it affects the soul so deeply. It's like standing on another planet!

You are lucky to be living in these blessings

I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. But been an artist I suppose, helps me see the beauty of Nature wherever I go.

Piece of heaven on earth!

The very vastness of the beach and its flat wide open infinitude space is so breathe taking.

So true. You feel so small in front of this vast open sea. I don't know why but it feels comforting. There is something calm and peaceful about this vast sea.

I must admit, I always loved the sea. Maybe because I was born and grow up near the sea. And loved swimming in the sea... far out was my biggest thrill.

You're so lucky. Growing up close to a sea is awesome. This view is serene

Well it seems that the clouds are reflecting their picture on the sea, and somewhere where we cant reach and only our vision can reach, the sea and the clouds are meeting their, the pictures are quite beautiful, maybe someday I will go there, walking on beaches makes your self relaxed I didn't knew that it was the beach were Burt Munro practiced, and the zig zag pattern is awesome.

I would love to paint the dramatic atmospheric conditions of Qreti beach, but think I couldn't do it justice. God has done it better than I could ever do!

it seems like a place full of splendid beauty i can't imagine living in such a place with such a killer view , i would never miss the sunset.

I wish I could live there too. But we had to return home to South Africa at the end of our trip. But don't worry I still got more to post, to complete my series on New Zealand. So keep in touch.

First of all New Zealand is quite a scenic place that is full of nature depicted by its greenery mountains and of course the lovely beaches. Afternoon on such a beach is wonderful to have as the colours it present are soothing to the eye. There is no way on doesn't want to come back and back again as it has got the power of relieving you out of stress disturbance chaos and fill you up with nature joy. No way could had you started drawing the scene as the atmosphere would had presented such a class to take of eye from it.

I agree about the soothing affect the whole expansive scene had on us.
As to painting, I have painted some scenes of New Zealand, and some of them are coming up soon in following posts.

Well willing to see them quite soon. They for sure will be thriller. Anyways the greenery too just pumps in the freshness in you. I hope to see some of the greenery in the next few blogs soon. Also where else have you been wandering just catching your art in the kiwi land??

I had heard about this beach earlier but today when u posted something related to it I was like WOW! If it's so calm n satisfying through pictures then I wonder how calm it would be when someone actually walks on its banks! Truely one of the mightiest creation of GOD! Thanks for sharing some wonderful pictures n I hope everyone will love it n also I hope someday I may get a chance to go there n spend some time alone!! Truely Amazing!!!! Cheers n have a good day!!

I hope you get a chance to go there. But alone, that's sad, you can't say look at that! Or hold hands and wondering along the beach in grand wonder of the surroundings!

This is a beautiful beach which you can drive on. Be careful that the tide is ok before going to far. Enjoy the peace and quite. On hot days you can have a swim or enjoy some surfing. It was great to see the beach where Burt Munro rode his bikes!
You have described the power of Oreti Beach very beautifully. All the picture are really attractive.

I admire your trip, oreti beach is very beautiful and the zig zag has a beautiful sand.
I think the sea is the place to vent the nervousness and didn't turn out as I
think. This is very interesting

The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page. Travel is great for your mind too. The Beach is awesome. The atmosphere of the beach and the zig zag patterns are just love. Enjoy your travel. Stay safe.

When a person feels the soothing effect ,
i guess it wud be the nature

This place you have been to is purely calm place to relax your soul.the sea though very big calms in itself and the tides that hits the shore making zig-zag patter is worth a capture, showing the symmetry all over the sand....who wud think of leaving the place it is the scene of calmness..

The beaches and the sea look so damn beautiful.
That view is priceless

Wow !!!
Oreti Beach is an amazing beach @artguru in newzealand...

Oreti Beach is one amongst Invercargill's native beaches, that options a beach break on a sandy beach. There square measure many peaks to settle on from down the beach, with each right and left handers.

this zig zag patern is something special
how good it would be watching there alone
in complete peace !
so vast!

I haven't been to sea but this looks breathtaking.... There must be a beautiful tranquility in exploring it.... Enjoy..

Nice post! Now my New Zealand party almost starts I'm seeing more and more posts about this beautiful country. Can't wait to finally visit it by myself.

Being on beach It is to truly embrace your solitude. One should lie empty, open, choice less as a beach - waiting for a gift from the sea.The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever. Even looking at these pictures, it feels so peaceful

Hi @artguru
Very beautiful beach. This place has its incredibly attractive atmosphere. It really looks like an orgony desert near the sea. Zigzags on the sand look unusual. I saw a film about Bert Munro and his amazing motorcycle and I consider him a talented and purposeful man of that time. Especially considering that his record is not beaten until our times.
Some photos look as if they are painted. This is a wonderful place. Thank you, I really enjoyed it.

it seems none of us were in the mood to leave. The beach.it had capturad our soul in its power forver and a day. But it came time 'we had to lave and go back to our loading! Steemit
