After the invasion of Istanbul by the Latins, the monastery church was built between 1250 and 1260 by King I. Manuel of the Kommenos family. The name of the Hagia Sophia means "Sacred Wisdom".
The building, a fine example of late Byzantine churches, is square-crossed and has a high central dome. The most imposing aspect of the building is the south. Wherein the embossing is described in the creation of Adam and Eve..

Hagia Sophia was an important church in the period from 1461 to the conquest of the Ottomans. On the need seen in 1670 It is changed back into a mosque by religion merchant. Unfortunately, the mosaics and frescoes inside are not visible, they are covered with curtains. the building is not too much big . but it is very nicely located on a rocky hill by the sea. and it survived to this day because it is special and beautiful church.

It's a very lovely place, Ceren! I hope to see it again one day. Nice post!

That is a nice post. The first image is of the Seraphims, they have the highest ranking in the angel's order. They are those standing next to the throne of God. Their wings are with fire. The building was originally a patriarchal basilica, a church built between 532 and 537. Later on was transformed in a mosque;)
