My Travel to Alexandria in Egypt

in #travel7 years ago

Alexandria, the second largest city in Egypt, was founded by Alexander the Great in 332 BC. Alexandria, a city strong enough to compete with Rome in time, has greatly increased its importance with its ports. Although there are few days left in Alexandria's old glory, there are many clues to the astonishing sunsets.

To get to Alexandria, I took the train from Cairo to the road and I was supposed to stay at the hotel after a pleasant four hour train ride. I went to the Alexandria Library without losing my time.

Alexandria Library

Contrary to the famous Alexandria Library, which has been destroyed by the fire, the new and modern Alexandria Library has a really large content. The works of modern art exhibited outside the book are worth seeing. After paying a small amount (3 pounds) for entry, you can visit the library in a wide range and benefit from books.

There are approximately 8,000,000 volumes in the library. When we traveled, we took our attention with the title of Turkish Lugati, which contains many basic works. The reason for the inclined structure of the library is that the sunlight is equally distributed to all working floors during the day.

Muntaza Palace

Muntaza Palace is surrounded by wide gardens. It also has a beautiful shoreline. In the palace built by Hıdiv II Abbas, the kinsman of King Faruk at the beginning of the 20th century, Florence and Ottoman architecture were used together. If the palace is closed to the public, the green park and the semi-private beach are among the most popular recreational facilities.

Kayıtbay Castle

The citadel, located at the tip of the East Harbor, was built in 1480 by Sultan Kaybaybay instead of "Pharos Sea Lighthouse". The stones of the sea lantern were used in the construction of the castle. Inside the walls are a small mosque, the oldest mosque in Alexandria, and the Naval Museum, where fish and shellfish from ships sank in the sea during the sea wars of Rome and Napoleon. The castle was seriously damaged by British bombardment of 1882, the minaret of the glass destroyed. Behind the coast road, you can see Alexandria and the sea scenes.
