The Breathtaking Venice 🎭

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

For a couple of days, I've been meaning to share another one of my travel stories with you and this time is all about Venice.

A little intro

A trip to Venice was promised to my brother and me years ago from our mother.
She told us, as soon as we learn english, she will take us there.
We have learned english years ago and sort of forgot about that promise of hers, but then, in September 2017, she finally said: come on, I'm taking you to Venice!

We have invited dad to come with us, but he refused because he doesn't like to travel.

So, the plan was for us three to go...

I was really excited and happy about that trip. I was looking forward to it because I have waited for that trip to happen ever since I was a little girl.

We have arranged our trip to happen from Saturday to Sunday.

But, on Friday afternoon, we found out that my brother couldn't go because he didn't pick up his ID on time. His ID was at the police station because he needed a new one (the old one has expired). He was supposed to pick it up that Friday, but the working hours of the police station on their website weren't right so he got there too late.

When we found out that he couldn't go, my mom and I asked my dad once again to come with us but he turned us down again. After that, we called the agency from whom we arranged the trip and there was nothing they could do.

Then, mom told me to call my boyfriend to come with us. It took me a little time to persuade him, but in the end he agreed.

Finally, Venice!

As I have mentioned, the trip lasted for two days. We went there by bus, it took as about six hours to arrive in Venice.

First, we got to the dock "Punta Sabbioni" and then we went to Venice by boat.
Just looking from the boat at Venice was amazing for me, can you imagine my enthusiasm when I got off the boat and was actually being in Venice for the first time ever?!
Wow, what a feeling!

After that, we went to see "Ponte dei Sospiri" (The Bridge of Sighs) which is one of the most famous bridges in Venice.
The legend says, that the bridge was named after the sighs of the ones in love who kissed and watched the sunset from the bridge.
But, the truth is always sadder and different.
The bridge was built in the 17 century in order to link the new prison (located in the Doge's Palace) with the old one (located across the river).

Then, we went to "Palazzo Ducale" (Doge's Palace). It is remarkable. It is located on "Piazza San Marco" (St Mark's Square).

After that, we went to eat. We ate pizza, it wasn't so good as we excepted but it was okay.

We didn't have much time left to see Venice so we used that time for taking photos.

After taking these photos, we went to meet with our group and we were headed to the hotel. Our hotel was located in a tourist resort Cavallino.

In the evening, we went for a drink in the hotel bar.

The second day

In the morning, we have had breakfast in our hotel. The breakfast was amazing! Everything was so delicious, too bad I don't have any pictures. 😓

After we checked out from our hotel, we went to the dock "Punta Sabbioni" where we left our bus and got on a boat.
We have had an organized excursion to the islands of Venetian lagoon. We went to see three of them (Torcello, Murano and Burano).

First we went to Murano, which is worldwide known for Murano glass. The production of the glass, dates back to the 13 century.
We were at the workshop where they make the glass and we saw how the horse is made.

This is the workshop:

And here is the horse:

In the gift shop, I bought myself earrings and a necklace. They are also made out of Murano glass.

The second island we went to see was Torcello, a peaceful and thinly populated. In the history, it was the most densely populated part of the entire lagoon.
Of all the places we have visited, I liked Torcello the most. It is so beautiful and peaceful, it has an excellent vibe.

Our last stop was Burano. Burano is known for its colorful houses and lace work.

Fun fact: if you buy a house on Burano and you want your house in a specific color, you have to go through a lot of procedures and paperwork before you can paint your house in your beloved color.

We have also had our lunch there. First we ate squids and then we ate pizza and this one was so much better than the one in Venice. After lunch, we went on a tour around the island.

And that was the end of our journey. Hope you enjoyed reading it! 🙋

Great footage!
Maybe it should be better described?

What exatcly?

A little more detail for those who do not know about Venice.

Thank you for your tip, I will try to be more explicable in my future posts.
But I think that almost everyone know about Venice, it's a world-known city :)
