Avoiding Airport Currency Exchange Rip-Offs

in #travel7 years ago

Don’t exchange cash, and in particular don’t exchange your cash at an airport. Sounds appealing, does it not - 19 % less than the bank rate on foreign currency exchange.... good value? I doubt it. But try to exchange pounds for euros or dollars for euros at some British or European airports. And the airport ATMs operated by exchange kiosks give the same rip off rates as the exchange desks.

Even the 3 percent foreign-charge rip off on some credit card charges pales by comparison to the typical airport gouge.
Of course, it’s easy to avoid by not putting yourself in the position to exchange currency at the airport. Even if you have no local currency on arrival, use a credit card to get into town or find an ATM operated by a legitimate bank.

Avoid being ripped off by not exchanging currency at the airport. Even when you arrive, if you have no local currency use a credit card to get into the city or find a branch of the local legitimate bank and use the ATM....

That's why, the main goal of cryptocurrency is to avoid all of these exchange issues.

Agree in the longer run, but have you had success being able to convert Bitcoin to a local currency in European or Asian airports / cities ?
