My Trip To Croatia Part #4: Biokovo Nature Park

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone!

Biokovo Nature Park, what an amazing place!

I'm very happy that we decided to go there!

This is part #4 of my Croatia travel posts!

In the morning, we rented scooters in Makarska and our plan was to drive all the way up to the top of mountain Sveti Jure located in Biokovo Nature Park.

It's the second highest mountain in Croatia.

From the point where we started, it was a 36 km ride.

It was really fun to drive a scooter again, since it was a long time ago.

I'm a person who doesn't like heights, so at the beginning it was a little bit unpleasant to drive so close to the cliff without any crash barriers.

Amazingly enough, you get used to the heights faster than you think.

The road up to Sveti Jure is actually listed as a dangerous road, as you can see by clicking the link:

I can't describe how beautiful the views are when you drive up to the top. I felt as you could do this forever!

Narrow roads!

On the way up, we stopped at a hiking trail were you could walk up to another mountain top called Vosac, 1422 m above sea level.

I'm glad we decided to do it, because in my opinion, this was the most beautiful place in Biokovo Nature Park!

After enjoying the beautiful views from mountain Vosac, we walked back to our scooters and continued our drive up to the top.

We had heard that it may be a lot of traffic on these narrow roads. Fortunately there wasn't, because when we were there it was off season.

Anyhow, I wouldn't recommend taking a car, driving a scooter is much more fun and you don't have to worry about oncoming traffic!

As we got closer to the top, you could feel the air getting colder and the road becoming steeper.

At last, we reached the top Sveti Jure 1,762 m above sea level and the views were breathtaking!

Sveti Jure!

On Sveti Jure you can also find a beautiful church. Actually it is a church at the highest sea level height in Croatia.

When we were ready to go back down we realized that there was like 1/4 fuel left in the tank, so we wondered if it would be enough to get back.

The guy who rented the scooters said that a full tank of fuel would be enough to drive up to Sveti Jure and down again.

Well, we wanted to be on a safe side so we decided to roll all the way down.

It worked quite well because it was downhill almost all the way.

Further down we met some lovely cows. You have to watch out for them when you are driving because they are walking freely around the park.

Nice cows!

In the end, we got down safely. The whole trip took around 6-7 hours and this was clearly our best day during our stay in Croatia.

If you go to Makarska, I highly recommend visiting Biokovo Nature Park!

Stunning photo collection my friend! It is incredible how diverse and beautiful this small country is :) Volim te Hrvatska!

Thanks!"Volim te Hrvatska!"I had to look up what it meant! Is the Czech language similar to Croatian language? Or do you also speak Croatian? :D

Haha, not really similar but they are both Slavic languages so we can understand the Croats to a certain extent, especially if you are a regular visitor to their beautiful country ;)

Okay, cool! :)
