1 week doing lots of nothing at the beach. Búzios, Rio de Janeiro – Brazil

in #travel7 years ago

On December my boyfriend went to Brazil to meet my friends, family and my country. We spent the new year’s eve with my friends in São Paulo then we went to a trip to Búzios and Rio de Janeiro city. We took a flight São Paulo – Rio de Janeiro and then a uber to Búzios (about 3h driving. Uber in Brazil in very cheap compared to the Netherlands)

Búzios is a small and very beautiful town located in de state of Rio de Janeiro. It is an escape from the busy life of Rio de Janeiro city. The place got popular in the early 1900s with the high society of Rio and even more popular when Brigitte Bardot lived there. The main street, Rua das Pedras, was named after her, Orla Bardot, where we can find her bronze statue.

We stayed in a Hotel called Chez Pitu, located on the Geribá Beach. Our days can be resumed like this:

On our last day, we made a day trip to Arraial do Cabo - Brazilian Caribbean (1h from Búzios). There we can take a boat and go to the islands. It's very beautiful but suuuuper busy. Except for the Ilha do Farol, which is protected by the Brazilian Navy. They allow the maximum of 200 people at the island and you can stay for 30 minutes. So there is a waiting line for the boats to get there, and sometimes it takes hours.

If you plan to go to Rio de Janeiro and you want also a calmer place I recommend Búzios! You can drive on the coast side where you can have a great view and stop whenever you want!

I hope you enjoy it. Have a nice weekend!

Beautiful photographs. Loved them all.

thank you!

Lovely pictures, love the water. Heard many negative things about brazil beaches, robberys etc and tourist would be careful. Would you agree on that?hopefully not

It depends! if you go to very touristic and busy areas for example in Rio de Janeiro city, copacabana beach you have to be careful. But if you go to less touristic destination it can be very safe and calm, like this one! But you should always take care of your stuff, not leave your camera on the sand when you go to the beach etc (the same here in europe). And always pay attention to the tourist trap! Brazil is very big, so you can find everything there. the south of brazil is very safe. the north, the most beautiful area in my opinion, can also be safe and calm, it depends very much on the city/neighbourhood. just take care and you should be fine :) I would recommend you to get a hotel at the beach and enjoy! thank you for the comment :)

Amazing place!!

I always dreamed about going to búzios, after your pics it is now a goal. And you looked stunning, what a babe! Love this :-)
